Our rehoming centre just outside Kings Lynn in Norfolk only has electric energy on site and we have one set of solar panels but we need more
The RSPCA West Norfolk branch is an independent charity fully self-funded, many people see the RSPCA Logo and think of this huge nationwide charity… Nothing can be further from the truth.
Our Rehoming Centre just outside Kings Lynn was built around 10 years ago, but with a lot of forethought. The Centre has rehomed over 2000 dogs, cats & rabbits in the last 5 years. Our kennels all have underfloor heating, as does the majority of the buildings which is powered by air source heat pumps. We have 30 electric solar panels to help power the site.
We all know the cost of electricity is rising very sharply and no sign of it coming down again and we are all thinking “what can we do about it”. Well we’re no different here at the Rehoming Centre and we think the best option for us is to add another section of 30 solar panels – which is the most our site can handle; according UK Power Network.
The cost of the installation will be £10,800 – thankfully we won’t have to cover the cost of the VAT now the Chancellor removed it in the budget. The company doing the installation has also agreed to install an electric vehicle charger free of charge, as we would love to have an EV van to transport the animals to and from the vets – but that’s a whole other story. The installation is due for June / July this year, so we can start taking advantage of the beautiful summer we are obviously going to have!
