Help us finish mapping Anfield’s memorial stones. Because behind every stone is a story that matters.
My name is Don, and I’m 72 years old. I’ve loved Liverpool Football Club my entire life — not just from a distance, but from the terraces, the streets, and the soul of this city. Years ago, I began a deeply personal project to document every memorial stone laid at Anfield — thousands of names engraved in granite, telling stories of love, loss, and lifelong devotion to the Reds.
I managed to catalogue over 17,000 stones (stonesofanfield.com) — one by one, with searchable photos and locations, each tribute treated with the respect it deserves. I plan to retake the 17,000 with better equipment and lighting control. Now, 5,000 more have been added, and I can no longer do this work alone. Age has slowed me. I live with declining health and limited mobility. What I once did on foot and with full energy, I now struggle to complete without help.
To make things harder, the original software and database I built were destroyed. I still have the raw data and a vision for the finish line, but I can’t afford to do it all myself. I need help photographing, updating the records, and maintaining the website that hosts these stories — not just for now, but for decades to come.
This isn’t just a hobby. It’s a legacy project — not just mine, but for the fans whose names are etched in this hallowed stone garden. This is a project for every LFC supporter who wants to find their loved one’s place in the heart of Anfield.
