To seek justice and accountability by bringing a private prosecution against Andrew Mountbatten Windsor (Formerly Prince Andrew).
Republic has instructed lawyers to pursue a private prosecution of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor (Formerly known as Prince Andrew) over accusations of sexual offences and misconduct in public office.
If not us, then who? Andrew has been arrested, but not charged, or sent to trial. We have to continue to make sure the royals are held accountable. Republic's investigations are ongoing.
A private prosecution is a complicated process. Republic has instructed lawyers and initial work is being done to get the investigation under way. This takes time, as the lawyers need to go through various 'due diligence' procedures become commencing the work.
The legal firm Republic is working with is Michelman Robinson.
Republic cannot predetermine Andrew's guilt or otherwise. If we are permitted as prosecutor we have the same obligations to deliver justice as the public prosecutor. We also cannot rely on news reports, books and gossip.
What we believe is that there is sufficient evidence to warrant an investigation. That investigation should be done by the police. As it's not, Republic's lawyers will do it.
If that investigation produces sufficient evidence we can then apply to a court to be appointed prosecutor. The evidence needs to be sufficient to give us reasonable confidence of a successful prosecution.
If that permission to prosecute is granted then the matter will be subject to a full criminal prosecution process. The public prosecutor, the CPS, may decide to take the case off our hands, or they may decide to leave it with us.
We've been calling for the government to convene a Royal Epstein Inquiry.

Republic has taken the unprecedented step of instructing a law firm to launch a private prosecution.
Lawyers will be actively investigating the case against Andrew with a view to beginning proceedings in the coming weeks.
A private prosecution can cost anything from £15,000 to £150,000 or more. With your support Republic can ensure this process is seen through to the end.

We can't do this alone. That's why we've launched this legal fund for our private prosecution. We don't have big corporate donors, so we're relying on donations from members of the public like you.

A private prosecution has the same power as when the police prosecute an alleged criminal. It is not easy to do and costs money, but Republic is keen to ensure that credible accusations against Andrew Mountbatten Windsor (formerly Prince Andrew) are met with proper accountability and a sense of justice for the alleged victims and the wider public. Donations to this Crowdfunder will go to legal costs and continuing our public campaign on holding Andrew and the royals to account.
Money not used will be returned with an option to donate to Republic.
This project aims to raise funds to resolve a claim, or other type of dispute.
