What do you get when you mix Dave Green with Gaz Williams? Something amazing and album-shaped. Help us make it!
After travelling the world studying the dark arts of song-smithery with ancient songmonks who used music to acheive immortality, Dave Green found himself sitting on a clutch of over 50 gig-polished tunes. He recorded them all, some many times, but the even darker arts of drums, bass, midi and mastering always eluded him and his cherished song-children were never good enough to go out into the world without him.
Then he met Gaz Williams.
Master of the quirky art of studio production. Bassist to a raft of star performers*.Hero of Parisian Supergroup Rock Operas. He's a whirring, playful, soulful, fast-action get-this-shizzle-down-and-have-fun typhoon of a producer with ideas firing like fireworks all over the place.
Together we're going to record a selection of my best songs, the ones audiences love, the ones I love, the ones that linger and long to be heard, using some of the best musicians in the South West - Bethany Porter already booked (Peter Gabriel, Newton Faulkner, Eliza Carthy).
Why Crowdfund?
The music 'business' doesn't exist anymore. Record labels have crumbled. Downloads and streaming have stripped the money trees bare and artists are increasingly taking all the chances. £5000 won't cover everything, but it will mean the album gets done properly, with musicians paid at Union rates. The CDs will get manufactured to a high standard. There'll be nothing left for promotion or postage etc afterwards, but at least it will happen! This isn't about the money or being famous and lauded - it's about the music, the songs, and getting them made right!
It's a one-shot thing and a high risk venture. The only slot Gaz has in his busy schedule for the year is this August... I'm going in with my fingers crossed that this all works out, because there's no backing out now. This just got real!

WHY THE NUMBER 8?
It's magic. Why?
1) Roll it over and it's the sign for infinity.
2) When I was 22 and deep in the throes of researching Music of Maninjau, learning about mystical musical wierdness in different cultures, a travelling herbalist channelled an ancient spirit while we were eating curry. The number 8, I was told by my 'ancient brother', would be seminal to the book and to my work on music. This is actually true - I mean, it happened. She (or 'He' depending on who you believe) also told me to go to Bhutan. Whaaaaa?
3) If you reach 88 mph in the right car... you whoosh back in time. Wowsers. Also true.
4) 88 is the luckiest number in China! It sounds like Fa, which implies wealth and it apparently looks like somebody who's going to have a bright future. The Chinese government auctions car registration plates with 8s in for thousands of Dollars. Definitely True.
5) 88 is used as shorthand for 'love and kisses' in amateur radio (If you want to be more formal, 73 means best regards).
6) There's 88 keys on a standard piano I think. I know... this is getting freaky.
7) The International Astronomical Union says there's 88 constellations. Oh my God, the whole Universe is involved in this crowdfund. I mean, in the number 8 :-)
8) There's exactly 8 things written here about the number 8, which presumably means we're riding some kind of zeitgeist, tuned in to higher forces, flowing with the cosmic 'mmmmm'. This surely bodes well for the album :-)
