THE STORIES OF SCHOOLBOYS. THE MEMORIES OF MEN.
Salford Grammar School has a unique place in the history of the City. From 1914-1974 it educated boys and sent them out into the world. Some of those boys, like Albert Finney, Harold Riley, Peter Hook and Bernard Sumner went on to become world famous. Many have had a positive impact in finance, science, and the arts. But every boy that passed through the doors of Salford Grammar School has stories to tell. Stories about learning, camaraderie, esprit de corps, and growing up, fast. Stories about classmates, prefects, teachers and headmasters. Stories about playing football and rugby, about the dreaded slipper and the cane, about the trips and the holidays. Without a permanent memorial in the form of a website, those stories about Salford Grammar School will fade from memory. The youngest old boy of the school is now well into his 60s. Father Time takes more of our Old Salfordians every year.
We them aim to film as many Old Salfordians as possible as they each tell their favourite stories about their time at school. The website will also house photographs and artefacts from Salford Grammar and a concise history of the school. In addition there will be news and updates from the Old Salfordians gatherings and news of future events. It will allow Old Salfordians to stay in touch as they continue come to the Annual Dinner from as far away as Australia!
Our initial target is £5,000 and then we will seek matched funding so we can not only build the website, but film our Old Salfordians and maintain the website year by year.
Every contribution, no matter how small, will be much appreciated, to ensure that Salford Grammar School is never forgotten.
