AMAZON CHARITABLE TRUST

RCN 1127628, London

Our mission is to protect the Amazon rainforest by working with local traditional and indigenous communities, supporting their projects while they become self sufficient and protecting the natural resources around them. We take a community development approach that is economically sustainable, while enabling local people to preserve their natural resources.

AMAZON CHARITABLE TRUST

Welcome to the Amazon Charitable Trust (ACT)!

Since our establishment in 2009, we've been on a mission to safeguard the Amazon rainforest ecosystem by partnering with river-dwelling communities, known as 'ribeirinhos'. Our focus is on the Extractive Reserve (RESEX) of the lower Rio Branco Jauaperi, in the Brazilian Amazon, where we support 14 traditional communities in their journey towards self-sufficiency.

By empowering these communities, ACT not only fosters their autonomy but also plays a crucial role in preserving the natural resources surrounding them. We firmly believe that the key to conserving endangered ecosystems lies in local communities' active involvement and growth. This philosophy is the cornerstone of our work.

Our current project and priority: Education

In collaboration with the local cooperative, CoopXixuaú, ACT coordinates and operates individual projects. Commencing in 2023, our current initiative aims to fortify primary education in the lower Rio Branco Jauraperi River in the Brazilian Amazon. This undertaking involves refurbishing 14 primary schools that suffered partial damage due to floods in 2020-2021.
