This project is aiming to raise £8500 to buy 4 new sightscreens. Sightscreens are used for matches and training for batters to sight the ball against the background and are essential items. Any size of donation welcome. Laurie will no doubt be using the facilities at Alvanley for many years to come.
The Stump Relay
Our aim is to relay a stump that was used in our Village Cup Final at Lords in 2021 and take this from the Lords pitch back to Alvanley over 6 days.
- Stage 1: 15 mile walk to Watford.
- Stage 2: 62 mile cycle to Banbury
- Stage 3: Cycle to Wolverhampton.
- Stage 4: Kayak / paddle to Gnosall
- Stage 5: Paddlers carry on to Audlem.
- Stage 6: 34 mile Sandstone trail walking the stump home to Alvanley.
How our Family will be Supporting
On October 19th, Andrew and Laurie will be kayaking Stage 5 of the Stump Relay. They will join fundraisers at Gnosall, Staffordshire, to paddle approximately 21 miles up the Shropshire Union Canal to Audlem. The following day, they will join Natalie and a larger walking group along the Sandstone Trail to Alvanley. Meanwhile, Isla will be at the club, helping to prepare a hotpot for the team at the finish line!
More about Alvanley CC
Alvanley CC is entirely amateur and 100% volunteer-run. Every penny that comes in to Alvanley goes directly to improve and maintain the club. Alvanley has teams from Reception age right through to the 5 Womens' and Mens' teams. The club currently has well over 200 junior players.
Community Impact
The huge number and wide range of young people that come to Alvanley, and the community groups that use our facilities and come to spectate, benefit so much from our club. Keeping our grounds, clubhouse and general upkeep of our facilities is costly, and as a CASC (Community Amateur Sports Club) we need all the help we can get to continue to ensure that our grassroots cricket survives. Helping future generations to gain a sense of community - whether they continue to play cricket into adulthood or not, is vital in developing important life skills, and fundraising makes it accessible for all, not just the privileged few.
