Update: Amount to raise reduced due to generous private donations! And the chair is on order ❤️ So grateful xx

Nathan has been a wheelchair user since birth and at home, church and school gets around well enough in his every day manual chair from wheelchair services even with use of one hand. He loves going on adventures with his mum Inger who until recently pushed him everywhere (notably right up to the top of Old Sarum (see profile pic) but also across numerous campsites, country parks, outdoor museums and festivals). But....Nathan is now adult sized and Inger is having trouble with her body (fibromyalgia and arthritis - being a single parent carer does not help). We have found the perfect wheelchair to help us continue our adventures and camping trips, but it is very expensive and for the first time ever we've been persuaded to crowd fund so others can help. Outdoor adventures are what makes us tick and keeps us happy and we really want to continue for years to come.

Enter the Trekinetic GTE

Why this chair (The Trekinetic GTE)? It is a lightweight but stable powerchair with a supportive seat that allows Nathan to comfortably be in it all day. He currently has a cheap folding powerchair for trips out and it hurts him after just a short time, so that matters. It makes for a constant compromise where we both hurt in the end. Unlike most special wheelchairs the GTE is crash tested and can be fitted with a tie-down system and headrest meaning Nathan can travel in it in our wheelchair van. Dragging the folding powerchair sideways up the ramp followed by Nathan in his every day chair, transferring on arrival and repeat for the way home is not great for Inger's pain and energy levels.

What will it mean for us?

And then the best bit - the Trekinetic laughs at grass, gravel and tree roots. No more situations like on campsites where we're valliantly pushing our way over the grass on the way to the bathroom only to come unstuck on a foot of a gravel. Or where there is the opportunity to admire military vehicles but it's on a gravel lot and we come to a stop over stones every three seconds. Nathan will be able to just go, with Inger walking next to him. Such an expensive wheelchair may feel like a luxury, but what we really hope for is just to be able to move across grass and gravel like most people can. In August we went to a large music festival and it took Inger so long to physically recover that she's had to say no to a repeat this year, just from getting around over grass and gravel for three days. This new chair would make so much possible again.
