All about Scarboccia

  • Who are we?

  •  Why are we crowdfunding?

We are crowdfunding because the demand for boccia in our community is growing faster than our resources, many schools don't have the equipment and older people in supported living can't always afford the travel and could have limited mobility. As a small club, we can't always cover the costs on our own. By crowd funding we can bring more sessions to more people, providing the specialist equipment needed and keep boccia affordable and inclusive for everyone. Every contribution big or small helps us break down the barriers and build a stronger more connected community. We can buy more equipment and support training for volunteers so they can deliver more sessions across the area.

  • How we’ll spend the money raised

The monies raised will provide the specialist ramps they start at £1,500 upwards this means a play can play with very little support, or can play independently. The boccia balls we play with are around £280.00 for a set which has six blue, six red and a white jack ball, so you can imagine we have over two hundred people we deliver boccia that's a lot of balls! plus target games for sessions which we use as warm up games at the start of the sessions. Venue hire which is accessible for all, which we try and use church halls as they are more reasonable at £15 an hour (roughly) depending on the area. As our club sessions grow, we need more coach leaders to deliver the sport and these need to be trained by Boccia England and others such as safeguarding, first aid and enhanced DBS.

  • Community impact

Our boccia project is creating real community impact. It brings adults and older people together, many of whom would otherwise have little access to Sport. We are improving physical and mental well-being building confidence and reducing isolation, especially for people with disabilities and those in supported living, schools benefit from inclusive activities out of school, older generations stay active and connected and our local communities in Scarborough Cayton, Norton and Whitby grow stronger through shared play and friendship. Boccia isn't just a sport here, it's a way of building belonging.
