Aim

Help raise £35,000 for an inspiring film to honour our friend who passed away after a long battle with cancer. This film was his last wish.

Wayne Sullivan was a friend, colleague, son, brother, uncle and nephew. He was a force for good and touched the lives of many. Heartbreakingly, he passed away in March after a long, hard battle with cancer aged just 37.

Wayne loved life and did everything possible to beat cancer.

But in January 2023, he learnt that his colon and liver cancer was terminal, and that with no more treatment options, he had just a few months - that turned to weeks - left to live.

One of Wayne’s last wishes was for his legacy to live on through a short independent film about his cancer journey and the preciousness of time. Wayne wanted the film to tell his story: how he tried to live life to the fullest against all odds, and how it felt for his time to be cut so short.

He wanted his story to raise awareness about cancer, and give hope to everyone battling the ‘c word’, in particular young Black men. Colon cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK and recent research in the USA shows that one in four Black men will be diagnosed with colon cancer in their lifetime. Awareness about colon cancer has increased after the tragic death of Hollywood actor ‘Black Panther’ Chadwick Boseman, but many people are still unaware of what symptoms to look out for.

In everything he did, Wayne not only fought for himself, but was also an advocate for young people, and for Black and LGBTQ+ communities. As a thriving senior leader within the events, sport and culture sectors in London, Wayne used his position and platform to ensure those from marginalised backgrounds were able to share and achieve the same successes.

When he knew he had little time left, Wayne asked Michelle Jones, an award winning independent filmmaker and Head of Creative at the Greater London Authority, to help create this film, and tell his story.

Pledge today to help us make Wayne’s wish a reality: to build him the lasting legacy he truly deserved, and raise awareness of colon cancer. Let’s keep his story alive.
