I am excited to be a part of a national wave of independents rising up to challenge the damaging systems that have created a significant fall in the standard of living for the majority of people around the country.
I am passionate about:
Urgent action on the nature and the climate crisis
Public ownership of transport, water, and utilities
Investment in and restoration of public services
Gradual reversal of outsourcing of public services
Free university education, no tuition fees
Complete public ownership of the National Health Service
The Cass Report
Increased public investment in Public Health
Redistribution of wealth for a fairer society
Investment in public housing
Ensure multinational companies pay tax in the UK
Increased investment in public mental health services and youth services
Action to prevent violence against women
Urgent ceasefire in Palestine and the Ukraine
People’s Assemblies
Electoral Reform - Proportional Representation
Green job creation programmes, not national service
The mainstream political parties, including the Green Party, of which I was a member for 10 years, are failing to challenge the inequalities that are widening in society because they do not address the fact that capitalism is incompatible with democracy.
We need members of Parliament who will battle against the vested interests that have led to the corruption of our democracy. Our rivers are heavily polluted and there is an alarming decline in biodiversity. Solutions cannot be found in the private sector which has the primary goal of profit, not the well-being of people and the planet.
An Independent MP can challenge the status quo and bring information to the public’s attention to hold bad actors to account.
My professional background is in clinical psychology and family therapy. I continue to work part-time in a therapeutic setting.
I have served as an elected representative before, as a Councillor for Nether Edge & Sharrow from 2016-2022. During my final year, I was a Cabinet Member on Sheffield City Council.
Some of my notable activities during that time and since include:
- I was a leading member of the Sheffield Street Trees Campaign; Anti-fracking campaigning; Delivered during Covid and beyond for Nether Edge food bank; and established a community vegetable garden during Covid.
- I helped the campaign to close Spearmint Rhino; Violence Against Women forum.
- I worked with local groups and campaigns (Love Our Streets, Nether Edge & Sharrow Sustainable Transformation, Save Archer Lane) and casework (eg: housing, PIP, antisocial behaviour).
I have a track record of challenging the establishment and speaking truth to power.
