A Good Day - Dementia Wellbeing Project

Aim

A Good Day aims to make our wellbeing gift boxes and activity packs available to more families and carers across the UK.

Our Story

Hello, we are Shirley and Emily. We are mother and daughter, and our journey started 5 years ago when we lost our beautiful Mum/Nana Pauline to vascular dementia.

After suffering multiple strokes, the signs started to appear and it was clear that something was wrong. What started as repeating sentences and misusing words, developed into losing her independence. It was difficult for those close to her, but we were still able to share happy moments together.

The Good Days

Something she didn’t lose was her smile and laughter. It was just a case of bringing this out. We would cut out magazine clippings of holidays as she loved to travel and lived in Spain for many years. She also loved to tell jokes and had a fantastic sense of humour. Although we miss her dearly, she is our passion and drives us to help others. We know she would be so proud.

'A Good Day' Boxes - the beginnings

In 2018 I started to volunteer for the Alzheimers society at an art/activity group. The imagery would often trigger wonderful conversation, and to see memories being triggered (the staff and volunteers included) was so rewarding.

One day I just woke up with the idea of ‘A Good Day’. The name didn’t come straight away, but the idea was providing these sorts of activities, along with topics of conversation and visual imagery, to those who don’t go out to these community groups. Something that could arrive in the post!

The name came when thinking about the many difficult days, trying to keep a healthy mental wellbeing. If there is one thing in the box that can release happy chemicals and create a meaningful moment, it’s done its job. 

Who doesn’t like receiving a gift? When that bright yellow box arrives, it’s a good day!

Our Crowdfunding Mission

We want to bring ‘A Good Day’ to everyone. 

• We want to expand the contents of our boxes to allow them to be completely customised through our unique online store.  People will be able to order our boxes for themselves or as a gift.
• We would like to develop packs for the care industry, reaching more people and providing invaluable tools of communication for carers or volunteers.
• With so many products on the market with high price tags, we want to make something affordable and accessible to all.
• To develop a programme of activities for group environments.

The Rewards

We appreciate your kindness and to say thank you we have offered some sort of reward for every donation. We will send a personal thank you to each and every person, and for rewards over £20, we have included a lovely calendar to make you smile all year round! It will feature UK artists with their own uplifting messages. Entry into a draw to win 'A Good Day' on us! This will be either a Spa Day, or an amazing Luxury Spa Package with an overnight stay at one of Daniel Thwaites Spa Hotels (6 UK locations)

£30 - Pledge 'A Good Day'

If you select the £30 reward, you will get one of our lovely boxes, packed with items of reminiscence, conversation starters, sensory gifts and tasty treats. 

Keep for yourself or pass it on to someone you know. If you prefer, we can pass this onto someone on your behalf - a random act of kindness. We can include a personalised message too if you wish. You will also, of course, receive your Uk independent artist calendar, and be entered into our Daniel Thwaites Spa experience draw.

£50 - Incredible Kindness Pledge

Receive a personal handwritten thank you and a huge shout out on all our social media channels (Facebook, LinkedIn & Instagram). 

Receive 'A Good Day' gift box, to pass onto someone living with dementia. It could be someone you know, or a random act of kindness. 

You will also get entry into the upgraded Daniel Thwaites Luxury Spa Package, with treatment. (6 UK Locations). Receive your 2020 feel-good calendar, and a special extra surprise too (you will have to wait and see!).

£150 - £250 - Pledge 'A Good Day' for many

For £150 and £250 you are making a massive impact to 5, or 10 individual people, passing on a smile! 

We will shout from the rooftops about your kindness!

You will receive:

• 5 or 10 'A Good Day' gift boxes sent out to an organisation of your choice.
• Social media promotion (Instagram, Facebook & LinkedIn).
• A Good Day 2020 calendar.
• A booklet on 'How to make your workplace more dementia-friendly'.
• Entry into our draw to win a Daniel Thwaites Luxury Spa Package for 2.

£500 - Key Supporter

As a Key Supporter, you will be invited to our exclusive launch event in 2020. This will be a chance to get to know us and what we are trying to do, and have your own input into the development of our future boxes. This is the perfect opportunity for value to your business, as your marketing will be sent out to individuals and businesses with every box for an entire 12 month period.

You will also receive:

• Invite to our launch event 2020.
• Promotional leaflet inside boxes for 12 months.
• Inclusion in our PR and press as a key supporter.
• Social media promotion (Instagram, Facebook & LinkedIn).
• A permanent place of pride on our website as an initial supporter.
• A Good Day 2020 calendar.

£1000 - Pioneer Wellbeing Project

We are creating a collaborative project with 2 organisations in the care industry, to work with us to develop our products in a group and one-to-one environment. As a partner in our pioneer project, you will receive:

• Invitation to our launch event 2020.
• Founding partner status, in our care industry wellbeing product.
• Led activity days throughout the year to test the impact on wellbeing.
• Collaborative input into the product.
• A promotional video of the impact the product has on your residents or patients.
• PR and Press release into the positive wellbeing achieved in your establishment.
• Training sessions for staff.
• A 12-month free subscription to our product.
