Aim
Wizzy & Alex are rowing the Atlantic in 2027 to inspire resilience. After campaign costs, all additional funds will support Samaritans.
Who are we?
We’re Wizzy & Alex, a mixed-pair team taking on the World’s Toughest Row - an unsupported crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in December 2027. Together we’ve launched Against the Tide, a campaign built to inspire hope, resilience and movement when life feels overwhelming. With backgrounds in endurance sport, adventure, and lived experience of mental health challenges, we’re rowing to show that even the toughest tides can turn — one stroke at a time.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Rowing across the Atlantic is one of the hardest endurance challenges in the world – but the toughest part isn’t the ocean, it’s getting to the start line. To take on this row safely, we need to fund a specialist ocean rowing boat, essential safety equipment, navigation systems, training, and the logistics needed to reach La Gomera for the start of the race.
Once these campaign costs are covered, every additional penny raised will go directly to Samaritans, helping ensure more people get life-saving emotional support before they reach crisis. Our aim is to inspire hope through movement while supporting a charity whose work means no one has to struggle alone.
This Crowdfunder helps us access that start line — and ultimately unlocks our ability to raise substantial funds for Samaritans.
How we’ll spend the money raised
Transparency is central to our campaign. Your support will help us fund the essential elements required to compete safely in the 2027 Atlantic race. Our costs include:
- Boat purchase and mandatory race equipment (oars, life raft, watermaker, para-anchor, safety kit)
- Navigation and communication systems
- Shipping and logistics to the race start and finish
- Training courses (ocean survival, marine radio, first aid, navigation)
- Insurance, race fees, and medical checks
- Food, supplies, and technical clothing for up to 80 days at sea

Community impact

Through community events, online storytelling, and our pre- and post-expedition short film, we hope to inspire people of all ages to keep going - even when the tide feels against them.
