After Party is a short drama that follows Becca, a mid-30s nightclub owner suffering from their addiction to alcohol. After years of taking the brunt of the work, their best friend and co-owner Charlie has decided to leave, making Becca the sole owner. But Becca lacks the self-confidence and ambition, which is leading the club down a path of financial ruin. With it being Charlie’s last week, she has to push Becca to not only try and save the club, but to accept her leaving.

The film at its core is a look at how grief and alcohol can destroy a person’s life, and it’s my responsibility to tell it in a creative but truthful way. As the Director, I will be overseeing and working closely with all heads of departments, to ensure we are all working towards what I have envisioned for this film. I believe as a Director I should always be communicating my ideas, but also be taking in new ones to help better my vision, and the film.

My vision is to tell this story in a grounded and realistic way, by setting it in the real world. So, anyone who watches this film can imagine one of the characters to be one of their friends, family, or past partners. The way I want to do this is by capturing the film through visuals that evoke a personal feeling, whilst still displaying the beauty and excitement of nightclub life.

This films story and characters are written in a way that their flaws and issues are universal, unattached from any one individual. Which is what this film is, a story about people.

This film is about creating an honest environment about the struggles of alcoholism and/or dealing with grief. Sharing this story from a very personal perspective of the director through the eyes of these two incredibly strong characters is going to be very powerful and emotional

It is my aim for this short film to get the recognition it deserves in the short film festival circuit, specifically in the female and LGBTQ+ categories. This is an inclusive and diverse production, with a creative and professional working environment. The most important goal for myself as the producer for this short film is to give an on and off-screen opportunity to the youth of the film industry a chance to be as free in their desired departments as possible and explore their own way into their career paths.

This would be a great end to our university experience and a great beginning into our professional lives!

Our film covers themes of grief and alcoholism that I intend to translate to the screen with sensitivity but harsh reality, having a personal connection to them. I want to use the camera to draw you into the world and experience all the emotion and turmoil as if you’ve known these characters for years. As an LGBTQ+ person I’m really excited about the introduction of a non-binary character to our film, and I hope it makes fellow queer and gender-nonconforming people feel seen to be represented on screen without the story being about their LGBTQ+ identity but about them as a human being. I can’t wait for this story to reach your screens soon!

I'm a post-production nerd and a musician who loves to enhance the feeling of a film through video and sound editing.

After Party is a great opportunity for creativity as we see the world from the perspective of Becca, a self-destructive alcoholic and an unreliable narrator. It is crucial that the feel of the film reflects the way Becca sees the world.

Sound manipulation will be key for the setting of the film. Whether that be a high pass filter, for the club music vibrating through the walls of the building, or the pace slowing as Becca's illusions crumble. It's going to be a great creative challenge and a lot of fun.
