Ultimately we are passionate about influencing meaningful change in the built enviro...
Our aim is to fund Afterparti Issue #01: our publication on architecture, race and identity.
FOR THE LOVE OF POWER is a 120+ page publication that explores the dual themes of ‘Love’ and ‘Power’ within the context of architecture and the city.

For the Love of Power brings together a diverse mix of new and established voices to share their equally rich variety of perspectives on themes ranging from systemic injustices to the most personal reflections tenderness and care; from spatial equity to education; from the climate catastrophe to decolonisation.

Contributors come from Santiago to Seoul, and include architects and artists; activists and academics; unions and grassroots organisations; students and parents. All were free to choose their medium, culminating in a multi-media mix of essays, illustrations, poems, interviews, photographs and letters.

If you have a stake in the built environment, then this publication is for you.

Afterparti is a fresh-thinking, architecture-infused collective with an event-and-zine series of the same name. We explore big ideas about contemporary urban space through the lenses of identity and race.
We believe in the power of writing and live debate as a tool for necessary criticism in an age that values the digital over the analogue and the transitory over the permanent. Our mission is not just about representation within an unequal industry – it is also about creating spaces for conversations that don’t make it into mainstream magazines.
Following our first ever sell-out event, at the Royal College of Art, we self-published our ‘prototype’ zine: Issue #00, The Time for Failure is Now. We were shortlisted for Stack Awards’ global Launch of the Year, and featured or reviewed in MagCulture, the Architect’s Journal, Wallpaper*, Dezeen, the Architect’s Newspaper and elsewhere. #00 sowed the seeds for the bigger, better publication we are excited to share with you so very soon.
“Probably the most fascinating architectural panel event I’ve witnessed in my entire career!”
- Merlin Fulcher, Open City
At the Barbican Centre in March 2020, on the eve of the first lockdown, we held our most recent public event: For the Love of Power. Since then we have explored many other platforms and opportunities that have seen us host workshops at universities and schools, guide mentorship schemes for young people, act as a critical advisor to companies, collaborate on design projects and spearhead community engagement projects.
“There are few voices in architecture that are this fresh and disruptive of the status quo, it will be interesting to see what journey this magazine takes after a very energetic issue zero.”
- Thea Smith, MagCulture
The launch of Issue #01 sees us return to our roots, our format. This publication will be a reflection of who we are and what we believe today. We are so proud to have reached this moment and bring you this issue.
We will host a launch party later this year, details to follow.

Issue 01 will be available exclusively in print, and the figure we are fundraising for pays for the publication’s production costs, competitive pay for our incredible list of contributors, and nothing more.
Any support beyond the figure attached to this campaign will help contribute to the future of the collective, covering operational and admin costs, and going towards future events and publications.
We’re committed to unearthing new narratives about the built environment and being part of real change in the industry; if you are too, please support and share our presale.
Publication - We are collaborating with a London-based print studio to create our limited run of 1000. Each is 120+ pages and indulges in exclusively being available as a print publication. We’ve included inserts, extras, mini zines or posters, and all kinds of print wizardry to create a truly special product.
Merch - From tote bags, to stickers, we will be including little extras as a small but heartfelt thank you for supporting Issue 01
Pay-it-forward - We understand print publishing might be seen as a luxury, but we believe it is essential for publications like Afterparti to reach everyone! Pay-forward to buy a copy for students and those less able to afford it.
Issue 00 - Final, final, final 10 copies of our sold out prototype. Once these go, there are no more. Ever. Get a special mention in the upcoming issue too as part of this reward package!
