AFEWEE TRAINING CENTRE

RCN 1162398, London

Afewee Training Centre is a multi-sport charity based in the Brixton Recreation Centre, Brixton, London. We use the sports of football and boxing to uplift and inspire the youth of the community, instilling discipline, work ethic and focus throughout each session as the centre point of success both in sport and life overall.

Who we are

Afewee is a charity that works for our communities by supporting our children. We play the role of a second parent, we keep our youth away from criminal activities, protect and empower them. We are not just a sports charity. Our vital collaboration with the local Metropolitan police and other local youth organisations are part of our key strategies.

What we do

Children from all walks of life join Afewee and support our principals, values and objecties. We not only create champions in football and boxing but also champions of life. Our volunteers are dedicated individuals that support mainly disadvantaged families.

Who benefits

We are an open diverse and progressive organisation that does not discriminate any member based on ethnicity, gender, race, religion, disability, or sexual orientation.

Why we need the funds

The benefits of supporting Afewee are invaluable and countless. The longevity and security of our charity is key to the safety of our communities. Evidently, during Afewee’s activities in the Rec crime in the area goes down. Afewee needs to expand to as many centres as possible in order to support as many children as possible. Raising funds is essential for our sustainability. Also, working closely with other organisations in the area is equally important. In order to achieve the above we will need a sustainable flow of financial support. The more children that are involved in our long term programmes, the better life we offer to them; social mobility, building confidence, wellbeing and positive spirit is what we strive for.

Testimonies

My name is DeSean Grant and I am from North London

Afewee really has helped me be the person I am today. It has the power to transform a normal boy like myself by installing values of perseverance, discipline and community. I found a sense of purpose belonging and pride guiding a normal boy like myself towards personal growth and resilience. It fosters a strong support network engaging positive development and helped shaped me into a well rounded individual.

I have recently gone for a trial at Fulham football club and through the confidence, discipline and determination I have gained at Afewee have secured a place at Fulham Academy a chance I didn’t think was achievable a year ago.

I have such a great future to look forward to thanks to the encouragement support and guidance providing me with an enriched self Worth I am proud to be the man I am becoming and that’s down to the Afewee community and Steadman and what he consistently provides not just me but many more young men that possibly could become lost in the system if it wasn’t there.

DeSean Grant - 14 years old

My parents enrolled my brother and I to Afewee FC in 2004, when I was 6, mainly to fulfil my passion for football.

During my time at Afewee I further developed some lifelong skills which included discipline, patience, punctuality, how to be a team player and organisational skills.  These skills stayed with me throughout my football career at major clubs like Fulham FC, Millwall FC and AFC Wimbledon and continue to stay with me today throughout all aspects of my life.  My love for football has also encouraged me to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle and maintain some lifelong friends within the community.
