Aim
At AFC Mackworth, our pitches at Knightsbridge and Rykneld Sports Centre are vital green spaces for the whole community.
Who are we?
We are AFC Mackworth, a grassroots football club at the heart of the Mackworth community in Derby. Since 2015, we’ve grown into a welcoming club that offers football for children and adults, whilst also working hard to be more than just a football club. Our pitches at Knightsbridge and Rykneld Sports Centre are open green spaces that are used and enjoyed by the wider community every day.
Why are we crowdfunding?
In recent years we’ve noticed a decline in the condition of our pitches. Poor surfaces affect not only the safety and experience of our players, but also the children and families who use these spaces recreationally.
To address this, we carried out a PitchPower inspection with the Football Foundation. The pitch experts recommended that we invest in essential machinery to improve our maintenance capability and keep our pitches in top condition.
The total cost of this equipment is £33,516. Thanks to Football Foundation funding, 75% is already covered - leaving us with a contribution of £8,379. For a volunteer-run grassroots club, that’s a significant amount to raise, which is why we’re turning to our community for support.
How we’ll spend the money raised
Every pound raised will go directly towards purchasing this essential machinery:
- Compact Tractor – a larger version of a ride-on mower, crucial for ongoing maintenance.
- Multi-Groomer – specialist equipment to improve the quality, safety and durability of pitches.
- Spray Line Marker – ensuring well-marked, professional-standard playing surfaces.
These tools will transform how we care for our pitches and will be a one-time investment that pays off for years to come.
Community impact
This project is about Mackworth as a community. By investing in better pitches, we’re investing in safe, welcoming spaces where:
- Local children can play and grow their love for sport.
- Families can enjoy outdoor time together.
- Our community can take pride in quality facilities on their doorstep.
