What will we do with the extra money

We want to offer more programmes for children and young people who are disadvantaged. At the moment we are working with an average of 5 young people a week (mainly one-to-one, on an ongoing basis). We would like to treble that figure in 2017, and also be working with at least 3 groups of between 2-4 children and young people a week. In total we worked with 85 people a year last year. With your help we are hoping to work with 150+ people in 2017. We estimate 63% will be under the age of 25 years - and 37% Adults. Our target is to offer 90+ children and young people the chance to benefit from learning and growth through the naturally occurring therapeutic opportunities connecting, engaging and working with horses can provide, through Equine Facilitated Learning.

Thank you so much to everyone who has already supported us - you are all making a very big difference, to the work we our wanting to do now, in 2017 and in 2027. The support we are getting now really will help us to flourish and thrive over the next year the next 10 yrs. Thank you so much...

With Warm Regards

Sue Blagburn and the Team at Adventures with Horses

Our work has the potential to change lives, please help us flourish and thrive...

Adventures with Horses offers learning and growth through the naturally occurring therapeutic opportunities connecting, engaging and working with horses can provide, through Equine Facilitated Learning. We are a social enterprise registered as a Community Interest Company.

We offer equine facilitated learning to help children and young people who are vulnerable and excluded. We help adults find the leader within, and our Personal Development and Art of Horse Whispering workshops help people of all ages find the courage to move forward, reconnect with nature, and step into what has meaning and harmony in their lives.

The work we are doing has the potential to change lives for the better. By pledging a donation or an award you will be helping Adventures with Horses start to flourish and thrive into a sustainable social enterprise that can offer more people the benefits of equine facilitated learning.

We started running workshops, programmes and one-to-one sessions in the summer of 2015, and we are already having some great feedback from the people who have experienced equine facilitated learning at Adventures with Horses. Please see some of our testimonials about what people are saying about Adventures with Horses, by scrolling down to the more about what we do section. You can also read more here http://www.adventureswithhorses.co.uk/stories-and-testimonials/

But like any business it takes about three years to break even, and we still have a year and a half to go. We need to raise funds, and we need to create more awareness so that more people come.

What we want to achieve

We particularly want to create more programmes that can offer disadvantaged people the opportunity for growth and learning.  We work with children and young people, aged between 9 and 25 years, who may have special educational needs and/or other challenges, such as those diagnosed with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, including young people who are not in education, employment, or training.

Outcomes of equine facilitated learning are being proved to help with:
• Growth in self confidence • Increased self esteem • Reductions in anxiety and stress.

Which can lead to:
• Better engagement and motivation • Building new skills and knowledge • Gaining new hope, vision and the courage to move forward • Reduced problem behaviours in children and young people.

We would also like to encourage more adults to come on our Professional and Personal Development workshops, or our Art of Horse Whispering Adventure days. By doing so you are making an investment in yourself and/or your organisation, and you help finance our young people programmes. Also if you run a business and come on one of our leadership or organisational change workshops, you could be fulfilling your corporate social responsibility goals. You can do this now through pledging and receiving a big saving on our normal prices. One of the main ways we will become sustainable is through more people coming on our professional and personal development workshops, so please come.

We need to raise £7500 and we have lots of rewards from £7 to £750

We are looking to raise £7500 so that Adventures with Horses can start to flourish and thrive into a sustainable social enterprise. Our campaign is rewards based so when you pledge you receive a reward.

Rewards start at £7 for a copy of our 2017 Adventures with Horses Calendar including postage.

Other rewards include for example: • A gift voucher to come on a one-to-one session, course or workshop, which start at £30
• Come on a Art of Horse Whispering 3 hour taster session with up to 5 of your friends for £135 • And the biggest award is £750 for an organisation to come on a two day Art of Leadership and Team Building workshop for 4-6 people.

Adventures with Horses 2017 Fundraising Calendars

As part of our fundraising we have produced a calendar to raise funds, to create awareness of our work, and also to celebrate our beautiful horses. These calendars are unique to Adventures with Horses, they have been professionally designed and printed, and the photographs in the calendar of our team of therapy horses, Arthur, William, Harry and Tristan, have been professionally taken. Instead of photographing what we do in equine facilitated learning we have focused on what horses do naturally behind the scenes; eating, sleeping, playing, rolling, grooming and connecting with one another. I have also chosen pictures that depict the seasons, their coats changing, and sometimes soaking wet - it rains a lot on Dartmoor! I hope both the fundraising film and the calendar will also give you a sense of how beautiful the land is here. The environment is an important part of how we work at Adventures with Horses. Our horses live as naturally as possible which allows us to work with the many natural learning opportunities horses can provide.

  • Professionally produced and printed
  • 12 stunning photographs taken of our horses (The Adventures with Horses Team: Arthur, William, Harry and Tristan) doing what horses do in nature...
  • 12 wisdom quotes on what horses can teach us 'by just being horses'
  • Space to write your appointments
  • All UK bank holidays are listed
  • Hole punched for hanging on the wall
  • Size 210mm x 210mm, 28 pages, high quality photography and print.
  • They come in perfectly fitting high quality white envelopes.

Please note: the money from your pledge is not taken until the project has successfully closed. If you would like your calender in time for Christmas I am willing to post it to you if you email me your address, please only ask us to do this if you are going to pledge. You can email us at [email protected]

Gift Vouchers

We have produced gift vouchers that can be sent to a loved one, family member, a friend or yourself, and can be used on any workshop, course or one-to-one session at Adventures with Horses in 2017. We will post the printed voucher to you, or directly to each person being gifted with a personal message from you, and we will send you a copy as a PDF by email or by post if you prefer.

Please note: the money from your pledge is not taken until the project has successfully closed. If you would like your voucher in time for Christmas I am willing to post or email you the voucher if you email me your address, if you don’t pay when the project is closed the voucher will be void. You can email us at [email protected]

Rewards for our workshops, courses, one-to-one  sessions

By engaging with horses in experiential learning and equine facilitated education, a wide range of people, both adults and youth, can practice leadership skills, communication skills and mindfulness skills. Build self confidence, self awareness and creativity. Develop trust, empathy, and responsibility for self and others. Explore new ways of inspiring others, building teams with greater flexibility, power and creativity. Learn to set boundaries without losing sight of the whole. Reflect on challenges and develop insights and new pathways for learning which are transferable back into everyday day life.

Adventures with Horses offers growth and learning through the naturally occurring therapeutic opportunities connecting with horses can give. People often believe they have something to teach horses. We ask instead what can horses teach us….

Our work divides into four areas:

  • Programmes for Children and Young People
  • Organisational and Professional Development and Leadership
  • Personal Development and Growth
  • The Art of Horse Whispering

Programmes for Children and Young People
By stepping into the world of the horse, children and young people learn essential life skills that cannot always be learned in the classroom. Example outcomes include reductions in anxiety and stress, increased self esteem, and reduced problem behaviours and hence better social inclusion. We offer programmes and one-to-one sessions.

Testimonial: "Falling through the Cracks, Horse Therapy prevented us falling into an Abyss. Our daughter is having a really tough time with severe anxiety following a disastrous transition to secondary school last year and has not attended school since. We found her school and GP were no help at all and we were unable to gain access the Child Adolescent Mental Health Service - school refusal falls between the cracks as I’ve found out. She spiraled quickly into a really, really dark place. I’d heard good things about horse therapy in the past and that’s why we decided to try it. Getting to the first session was a big hurdle – now we go every week and Sue individually tailors each session. The connection our daughter made with the horses has been amazing; I’ve watched her gradually come out of her shell and re-engage with herself and the world. At the end of one session my daughter said ‘ I love it here Mum, I can just be and forget my worries’. Horse therapy has been a powerful constant through a really difficult and ongoing journey." Testimonial: "Such a wonderful day yesterday, being with the herd of very cool equine dudes! Thank you so much for a unique experience, and for a total break from stress, plus a few insights into how we allow modern life to herd us along when we shouldn’t. No doubt I’ll be back. Thoroughly recommended." JH, Plymouth

Personal Development and Growth
Explore how to enter a relationship with the horse which is equal, not power over. By engaging with horses in this way, we develop a process of inquiry, into for example, how we get from where we are to where we want to be in our lives. The learning is in the experience and the non-judgemental feedback the horses will give. You then take what you have learned, back into your every day lives. We also focus on what horses can teach us by just being horses, and not just from a human (anthropomorphic) perspective, but by meeting the horses in their field, in their culture, this can help us get back into our senses and our embodied ways of knowing.

"The day working with Sue, William, Arthur and Harry was one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life. It took me deep into a spacious heart. I loved the bodyscan and meditation you guided, preparing us to meet with the beautiful energy field of the horses and everything that happened afterwards was a magical journey. I am changed and more connected with myself, others and the earth. I also feel as if a weight - the weight of worry or rushing has cleared from around my heart. THANK YOU ALL."
SP, Dartmoor

The Art of Horse Whispering
Through meeting the horses in ‘their field’, in their culture, participants learn to build connection and explore how to enter a relationship with the horse which is equal, not power over.  Suitable for young people of all ages! Adult groups, children and young  people groups and families.

"I found the session profoundly moving, what you proposed opened a whole new world for me in terms of how we relate to animals. I loved it because it de-intellectualised relationships into real experience - if the horse did not trust me, he would not move." KK, London

Update 18th January 2017

I am pleased to inform you that we now have an extra week to go in order to help us reach are final target of £7,500 Today at 9pm was going to be the end of our crowdfunding campaign. At the point of making this update we have so far raised £4,287, which I believe is really good going. A very big thank you to eveyone who has already donated and pledged... I feel great gratitude.

Crowdfunder UK have been amazing to work with, They love our project and featured it in their weekly promotion at the weekend, what's more we may now have a chance to get some extra funding - making it even more important to try and reach our target - and Crowdfunder have extended our project for another week to give us a better chance. So our crowdfunding campaign now runs until 9pm, Thursday, 26th January.

I chose a target of £7500 because that is realistically how much we need in order to offer more programmes for children and young people who are disadvantaged.

New Rewards...

Through our crowdfunding marketing, and then other ongoing marketing, we are also hoping that around 60 of you adults will come on one of our workshops or one-to-one sessions in 2017. Art of Leadership, Professional and Personal Development and Art of Horse Whispering workshops are all on our Crowdfunder page as rewards - with huge discounts on normal prices. When people pledge to come on one of these workshops or sessions through our crowdfunding campaign they will not only benefit and recieve a discount - that's the reward, they will also help us reach our target, so it's a win win situation alround!

We are also now offering these three books as rewards...
