Our fabulous outdoor community work is pretty pioneering!
Being outdoors and in nature is good for physical, mental and social health. Exploring and playing in nature uses more physical energy than a typical PE session and is accessible to more people. But outdoor cultural capital is not available to everyone and we aim to fix that. We want to get more people outdoors, to more places, more often and more easily.
We support our communities to have good outdoor lives regardless of income. We do this by providing food, outdoor kit, clothing & boot swaps and tonnes of outdoor sessions and adventures. Most of it is free - to make it accessible and remove barriers to participation.
Now, we want to raise the ambitions of our adventures by traveling from our Basecamp to new horizons. We want to visit moors and mountains, woodlands and beaches, cycle trails and cities. We want to give our communities the opportunity to marvel at new adventure in places they have never been.
And we need a minibus in order to get there.
Research tells us that many children in Cornwall have never been to the beach, despite living on a peninsula and being surrounded by sea.
Natural England Surveys show that most visits to National Parks are by car and access to them is difficult for those without one. Public transport, especially to and from rural areas, is limited and can be expensive. Hiring minibuses is expensive too.
Please can you help us to raise 20,000 to buy a minibus?
This will help us achieve our goals of taking a group on an expedition to Dartmoor, training sessions on Bodmin Moor, overnight expeditions on the Saint's Way, visiting beaches with more children more often, regular access to a lovely piece of local woodland that we have been invited to use, reaching cycle trails that are tantalisingly close but too far to walk to, visits to our amazing friends at the Royal Cornwall Museum and Hall for Cornwall, YHA city adventures...... the list of what we have planned for this year is long, and it is only January!
Many people are so happy with our work that they ask if they can donate to help support us. This is a project that we would love your support with.
