About Adult Dyslexia Group:
Adult Dyslexia Group was started by Cat (me) in 2018 as a not for profit social drop in as I was frustrated and disappointed with how little support there is not only in Aberdeen but throughout Scotland for dyslexic adults like myself.
I ran drop in sessions locally from April 2019 until the beginning of COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020 when all forms of socialising was frowned upon. I did try to get sessions running online, however, those weren't used much at all when they were announced.
Until last year I was working in care and decided to restart Adult Dyslexia Group, keeping with the original aim of providing social support for dyslexic adults in Aberdeen.
Plans:
Some of my future plans include selling specialist stationery and reading aids at affordable prices these will be available to buy at events and the office. Getting premises in the city centre and offering a café area with most of our food been sourced from local suppliers, computers with Microsoft Office and specialist dyslexia software (TextHelp, Dragon, MindJet etc).
The very long term plan is to have local educational psychologists who specialise in dyslexia assessments available to coming in to do those because Scottish people who are dyslexic often have to travel to England for their assessments.
How I will use money raised:
I will use money raised to purchase an office lease on a pay as you use basis. I will also purchase a laptop, licenses for software and attend relevant training to use them.
Get quotes from at least five suppliers and bulk purchase a4 and a5 notebooks in all five colours from Pukka Pad Comfort In Colour range, a4 overlays, reading rulers.
I will also use money raised to custom print a promotional banner for use at events and drop in sessions and to restock my business cards and leaflets as needed.
Relaunch event:
Ahead of the planned relaunch this spring I will also use some money to compile goody bags for the relaunch event and will be purchasing party favours bags, organsa bags, Thank You cards, Frixion pens, custom printing keyrings, magnets, bookmarks, stickers and confectionery.
