Aim

We have 5 tennis courts 2 in disrepair; the aim is to renovate & floodlight the 2 courts to enable a lengthened season and build the club.

Who are we?

Adel Tennis Club was established in 1929 as part of Adel War Memorial Association Sports club.

Building an open, friendly, welcoming environment is the club's primary ethos. We are proud to have an equal gender membership through an active programme to attract girls and women members providing ladies tennis social play and building the female teams.

The club offers opportunities for all standards of tennis from the rusty racquet programme for new beginners and those returning to tennis to the team tennis programme which enters men's, women's and mixed teams to both Summer and Winter leagues. The club runs multiple weekly social tennis sessions for all including a dedicated ladies' session.

The junior section continues to grow under the tutelage of our head coach Dave Barrick. A busy coaching programme runs through the year on a Saturday morning for red, orange, green ball groups and for older children the opportunity to gain coaching badges and work alongside Dave as paid junior coaches. The coaching programme includes our Booming Backhands scheme for children from low socioeconomic backgrounds providing coaching and kit as part of the junior programme.

How we’ll spend the money raised

The club has 5 courts, 2 are in disrepair and none have floodlights. We aim to raise money to renovate these 2 courts and install floodlights.

We need to raise money for:

Without VAT : £93 460

1. Court resurfacing, posts and nets : £29 562

2. Fencing and gate : £26 790

3. Lighting : £37 108

With VAT : £112 152

We hope to raise a minimum of £15 000 through our crowdfunding scheme which will be generously matched by Sports England / National lottery funds. Through a combination of club funds, a Yorkshire Tennis grant and sponsorship success should see us in a position to initiate and complete renovation this year.

Community impact

Renovation and floodlighting of the 2-court enclosure will be transformational, increase court space from 3 to 5 courts in 2 enclosures with one floodlit thus providing an all-year-round facility.

The junior coaching programme is restricted to weekend sessions and after school 1:1 sessions as daylight permits. Success will enable the club to hold evening coaching all year round hence more sporting opportunities for girls and boys including the Booming Backhands scheme.

An expansion of court space will permit inclusion of more mixed abilities during social sessions hence ease integration of those coming through the rusty racquets programme into the wider club. Moreover, a separate enclosure will provide separate spaces for simultaneous social and competitive tennis hence easing concerns that loose balls may disturb match play.
