Who are we?
Tattyreagh is a small rural hamlet situated half way between Omagh and Fintona, in County Tyrone, the towns are approximately 5 miles on either side of Tattyreagh. Our facilities are the focal point for this tight-knit community.
Our club has never been stronger on or off the field. Our objectives are clear and simple to involve the whole community and continue to build an organisation in which we can all participate and benefit from.
We cater for all GAA activities as well as communities programmes through our shared gym facility and walking trail. Current user groups of our projects and facility includes the Tattyreagh 5-mile Road Race/5k Fun Run/Walk Committee (cross community event), Tattyreagh Youth and Community Group (cross community group), Tattyreagh Cycling Club (cross community group), Irish Dancing Group, Tyrone Camogie Association, local Toddlers group, local Pilates group (cross-community), Sacred Heart Primary School Tattyreagh and Tattyreagh mens/hens shed.
Our 2022 to 2027 club plan is about club and community and to provide access to social, leisure, cultural and sporting facilities for all. We are determined to build on the work of previous generations and to continue moving forward.
We are dedicated to ensuring that our games and values enrich the lives of our members, families and the communities we serve. We are committed to active lifelong participation for all and to providing the best facilities. We actively seek to engage with and include all members of our society.
We promote individual development and well-being, and strive to enable our members to achieve their full potential in their chosen roles.
Our vision is that everyone be welcome to participate fully in our games and culture, that they thrive and develop their potential, and be inspired to keep a lifelong engagement with our association.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We are crowdfunding to raise £10,000 (which Sport NI will match fund £5,000) to deliver our "Step Up for Health with Tattyreagh GAA" Initiative this winter.
This funding will enable us to provide a comprehensive range of activities this winter designed to enhance the physical and mental well-being of older adults in our rural community.
The programme includes an introduction to fitness for older people, a community rural walking programme, several well-being through sports workshops geared towards our older population, social and sporting programmes such as walking football and dance, all which is tailored to the needs of our older rural population.
By raising £5,000 from our community and £5,000 from Sport NI (£10,000 total), this crowdfunding will mean we will be able to cover the costs of specific coaches, workshop facilitators, project-specific equipment, and some transport for social events and refreshments.
More specifically, we plan to deliver several key projects over 20 weeks throughout the winter:
Introduction to Fitness Classes at the Gym: Regular, tailored fitness sessions focusing on strength, flexibility, and balance to help older people maintain their physical health.
Health Workshops: Informative sessions on nutrition, the importance of movement as you get older, and healthy living, led by healthcare professionals.
Community Walking: Organise guided walks along our designated trail and rural area to promote physical activity, social interaction, and connection with nature.
Social Events: We will organise 3 day trips to build community spirit and reduce social isolation.
Sporting Specific Programmes: We will organise weekly walking football and dancing initaitves for older people.
The Crowdfunding support will also help us foster a sense of community among seniors, combat social isolation, and promote "active aging" in our rural area here in Tattyreagh.
Meeting our crowdfunding target will demonstrate our community’s commitment to supporting our older population and ensuring the long-term success of this initiative.
How we’ll spend the money raised
£10,000 raised will cover the following costs: Older persons specifc coaches, workshop facilitators, project specific equipment, some transport for social events and refreshments. More detailed costs includes:
Older Persons Specific Coaches (1 coach over 20 weeks @ £30 per hour 6 hours per week): £3,600
4 Workshop Facilitators @ £250 per session= £1,000
£4,000 gym specific equipment for older people
Transport Budget for several social events @ £1,000
Refreshment Budget for 20 weeks @ £400
Community impact
The wider impact of our Club and Crowdfunding is for the whole community of Tattyreagh, and is that our Club is to promote not only participation in Gaelic Games, but also exercise and other health improvement activities within the rural community, as well as to provide accompanying services which support other social and economic challenges in our community such as supporting older people.
Our older persons project in particular will have a huge positive impact on our older population because we will have a fitter, healtheir and happier older population here in Tattyreagh thanks to the fundraising efforts of everyone.
As such, we recognise the role we can play in addressing various issues that can provide better opportunities for our older rural residents in a wider sport and more inclusive way for older people for example.
We also recognise the value of providing support in uniting communities and bringing people together from different backgrounds, and thus we are putting a big onus moving forward on promoting our premises as a community hub for all members of the community to utilise across rural Tattyreagh, regardless of age, race or religious background. Where we are located is defined as a deprived area because of how rural it is, and lack of proximity to services. Considering this, our GAA Club is at the heart of the Community locally because of the lack of similar community facilities for residents to use. Our Community facilities is much more than just a GAA facility therefore.
