16th October 2015CAMPAIGN LAUNCH: Now is the time to Act for the Act
Dear Act for the Act supporter,
First and foremost, a massive thank you for all the support you gave to the Act for the Act campaign a little while ago. As a result of your amazing generosity and commitment we have spent the last few months bringing to life the stories of real people who have needed the Human Rights Act when something went wrong in their lives.
Our government has confirmed that it is pressing ahead with plans to scrap the Human Rights Act, in early 2016, so this is the moment to launch the Act for the Act campaign. The more of us who speak up about our support for the Act, the more chance we have of persuading our government to think again.
We have just a few months to turn the political tide. Now is the time to Act for the Act.
Campaign goes live!
We are excited to tell you that on Monday morning the campaign will go live, and our website is live from today. Go to www.actfortheact.uk for a preview of the campaign posters and to hear ordinary people telling their stories of why the Act matters so much to them and why they want to save it. You can also find us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/actfortheact) and Twitter (@ActfortheAct).
Help show our government how many of us want to save the Act by signing the letter to Justice Minister Michael Gove MP, telling him why the Act is too important to be scrapped. Signing the letter takes just a few seconds. Please add your signature and ask your friends to do the same.
Monday 19 October will see Act for the Act posters on billboards across England, Wales and Scotland, on buses and at over 100 London tube stations. These posters tell the powerful stories of when ordinary people like us needed the Human Rights Act .
None of this would have been possible without your support.
How you can Act for the Act
To really take this campaign to Michael Gove, we need your help. Here are just some of the ways you can Act for the Act:
- Co-sign our letter to Michael Gove (see above). This is the most important way to help the campaign now.
- Share our letter, films and posters with your friends and family online using the hashtag #HumanRightsAct
- Spot any of our posters across Britain? Tweet us a picture! You can find a link to the locations of our billboards and other posters here and here.
- Do you have a story about how the Human Rights Act helped you? Tweet it to us, or send to [email protected]
Thank you for all your support so far. Now is the time when the Human Rights Act really needs us. Let’s all Act for the Act.
Thank you,
Caoilfhionn, Martha, Fiona and the Act for the Act campaign team
