ACORN defends members across the country every day - through solidarity we win justice. Now we're trying to build a revolutionary app.
Have you ever been made to feel powerless? Unfair evictions, sexual harassment, bailiffs at the door - it’s hard to fight back when you’re alone.
But as members of ACORN, we aren’t alone.
ACORN is a community based, direct action union. We’ve won big campaigns against international banks and local authorities, but the real fight takes place in our neighbourhoods. Door by door and street by street we mobilise to take emergency action to protect members.
As we grow we need tools fit for purpose, so we're asking you to help us build our ACORN Red Alert emergency support app.
This app could help save people from violent and traumatic situations. This is how it would work:
If a member is experiencing an emergency - like being harassed in the street or threatened by their landlord - they can open the ACORN Red Alert app and hit the emergency button.The app alerts other members to the emergency situation and broadcasts the location of where help is needed.Members responding to the emergency can also broadcast their location to show that the union is on it's way.
The app is going to be made by ACORN members alongside Code-operative, a tech co-op in Newcastle.
But we can’t afford it without your help.

This app could really help change people’s lives - giving power to the powerless. If we want a louder voice and a fairer share, then we need to work together to get what we deserve.
WHAT WE NEED THE MONEY FOR
We need to raise the initial £10k to plan, develop, test and launch the first version of the app. Any money over and above that point will go towards the ongoing costs of maintaining and improving it and adding new features. We're not just asking for donations - this is about showing real solidarity with people in need.
