Who we are

We are Lulu Freeman and Imogen Lang, two filmmakers who are in our third year of studying at Falmouth University. Working closely together on our 10-minute experimental documentary as part of our final project, enables an honest, comfortable and creative environment. We are using the time to explore the world of documentary and experimental documentary.

About the film

Un-homely,"captures something of the estranging sense of the relocation of the home and the world in an unhallowed place"- this is how Indian-English scholar, Homi Bhabha defines this awkward word in his 1992 social text 'The World and the Home' where he studies the concept of Home it its various forms.

What we are trying to achieve

The aim of the project is to have a conversation about Home and the Un-homely, two concepts that seem very relevant in todays climate. We'd like to enable an honest and personal discussion around displacement and its impact on identity. The project will showcase and validate the impact of un-homely feelings on all individuals identities, sense of well being and sense of belonging. Through the use of unconventional interviews, poetic and experimental filmmaking, we will provide a platform for people to define and explore their definitions and feelings of home and the un-homely beyond just a material structure.

How we will use the funds

The funding raised will go towards the satisfactory execution of our idea and research. More specifically to help us cover travel expenses for our participants, as well as funding for the purchase and processing of super 8 film and finally, towards festival submissions. Being part of festivals will allow the conversation to continue and to encompass more people, something we feel is crucial in leading us towards change and supporting individuals experiences and reactions to feelings of non belonging.
