Reducing Isolation with Food
Following on from the success of our Bury St Edmunds festive food project we realised how great the need is for support for individuals living alone.
Working with our referral partners, donors and other organisations we have put together a project to continue that support for individuals with a hot meal and an opportunity for a chat with a friendly face.
West Suffolk College are offering their kitchens and students to help prepare heat at home meals, using fresh food donated and gifted to the project. Abbeycroft Leisure will coordinate the programme as well as providing opportunities for social activity sessions as COVID-19 restrictions ease. Working with our food bank and community partners we will identify individuals and fortnightly deliver food to them using volunteers. During these visits we hope those living alone will not only receive a delicious meal to heat at home, but also have a chat to help combat the isolation.
* Combating isolation with regular face to face visits from volunteers
* Helping with healthy eating though the provision of delicious heat at home meals
* Introducing alternative physical and social activity through Abbeycroft Leisure.
* Reducing food waste by collecting and utilising left over and surplus food coordinating with farmers, supermarkets and foodbanks.
* Creating a contact point for referring to other supportive services
