Aim

We want to provide a disabled access toilet, family changing room and improved facilities for all to get more people on the water.

Who are we?

We are the Hastings & St Leonards Sailing Club.  We are all volunteers who have kept sailing alive and well from the shingle beach in St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex,  since 1953.

Community impact

We provide sailing opportunities, including training for children and adults living in our local community and from further afield for those able to travel to reach us.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We are crowdfunding because we are concerned that our facilities are not inclusive and not up to modern standards.  We don't have a family changing room, a disabled access toilet or equal sized changing rooms for our men and women sailors.  We want to put this right and enable more people to get involved in sailing.  The pandemic put us back for a bit but we now have the plans, energy and enthusiasm to take this forward.

How we’ll spend the money raised

The money raised will help to fund a new family changing room and disabled access toilet.  It will also fund improvements to our general changing room facilities but especially for our women sailors who currently have much smaller changing facilities than our men.

Since launching our crowdfunding initiative we have scaled back our target to £4000.  We realised our initial target was overly ambitious.  Everything raised will still go towards the improvements we want to make; if we have to scale back a bit then we will focus first on a family changing room and disabled access toilet.

How our project will be United by Birmingham 2022

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will have the largest ever female sport programme in its history.  We want to match the vision of Birmingham 2022 by growing female participation in our own activities.  We have launched a "Women on the Water" programme this year and need the right facilities to support our goals.
