To create a working tramcar with wheelchair lift, to carry passengers who cannot climb the steps into our vintage tramway vehicles.
Amazing!
Crich Tramway Village is an amazing charity, museum and visitor attraction. We're volunteer-led, and have built one of the region's largest heritage destinations over a 60 year period. Our team is a great blend of enthusiasts, engineers, heritage fans and people who like making a visit to Crich a special day for everyone.

For all ages and tastes
We attract over 100,000 visitors a year, and we know that around a fifth of these find it difficult physically climbing up into and down from our 100 year old trams. Adapting a 40 year old Blackpool seaside single-decker to take a wheelchair access lift will mean that everyone can enjoy a journey on our remarkable tramway. This inclusivity will mean that disabled or older visitors will be able to access every part of our museum thanks to our smooth way path and lifts in multiple buildings. It would also open up the exciting possibility of wheelchair users being able to drive the tram, under supervision. This would be a first for the UK!

A 21st century Access Tram!
We need to raise the money to enable us to carry out the necessary re-building and fit out of the tram in a safe and sustainable way - this includes reinstatement of electronics, adapting the lift-well, fitting extra grab rails and modifying the driving position. We've got a skilled team of volunteers, engineers and users, we've got a plan, but we need your help.
As Zoe, one of our volunteers who uses a wheelchair to help get about says 'I am really looking forward to having a tram that enables me to ride with my family and friends that won’t cause me extra pain that I currently get from trying to get onboard one of the historic trams.'
Let's make this happen!
