Aim

The Women's Equality Party in Wales needs your support to ensure that access to abortion care is made equal across the country

In many parts of Wales there is no abortion care beyond 9 weeks of pregnancy, and after 18 weeks there is no care available in Wales at all. Those seeking abortion care are routinely sent to England for treatment, for example to Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester, London, and Bournemouth.

This is shocking when abortion is one of the most commonly performed gynaecological procedures in the UK, with one in every three women having an abortion in her lifetime*. This means that a third of Welsh women may face this appallingly poor provision of abortion healthcare.

Why does it matter?

On top of the toll that excessive travel after surgery can have on both physical and mental wellbeing, it can also be logistically difficult and expensive, potentially creating additional costs such as accommodation and childcare. This has a disproportionate effect on disabled women and those with low or no income. For some it can force them to tell the people they live with, even when this may put them at risk, such as for those living with domestic abuse.

WE believe that this logistical, financial, and emotional burden is unnecessary, wrong and evidences a crucial failure in healthcare provision in Wales. This can be resolved with funding and political will from the Welsh Government.

How you can help

Your donations will help the Wales Branch of the Women's Equality Party to put this issue on the public and political agenda in Wales. You can also sign our petition here.

The legal bit...

As we're a political party we're required to run permissibility checks on donations over £50. These will be completed as you make your donation and therefore we can't accept anonymous donations.

If you give over £50 in total your details will appear in our election returns, and if you donate over £7,500 your name will appear on the Electoral Commission website.
