Abertiller Institute (The Stute) has a long history in our area. We are at a critical stage in our fundraising journey we need your help!

Abertillery Workmen’s Welfare Institute (The Stute) is a very important building in the Ebbw Fach Valley but especially important to the people of the Abertillery area and the lower Ebbw Fach Valley.

Since 2015, the trustees have given up many hundreds of hours of their time voluntarily, to try and reopen the building for our community.   We believe that this building could be pivotal to the rejuvenation of the area and a tremendous asset to the town and our communities in Abertillery and to communities up and down the valley.

Our aim is to work with other similar projects to link the provision of support services, educational classes, social activities and community hubs which are important and necessary for community cohesion, community wellbeing and a sense of place for our citizens.

We have had our ups and downs over the past 8 years but we have also had an enormous amount of support from local people. We appreciate every single offer of help and support in bringing our ambition for the Stute into reality.

These are exciting times and without the dreaded Covid pandemic, we would be a lot further forward with our project.

We are now at the stage, where we need to get our plans and architectural drawings up to the stage where we can go out to tender.   We have managed to secure £25,000 towards the costs of getting us to this stage but we need to match fund this as it will cost in excess of £45,000.  This is a huge task!

We know times are hard, but the end game is almost tangible and we are appealing for help to enable us to finally get our project over the line. Any amount, large or small will be most welcome.  Can you organise a raffle, or a sponsored walk?   Can you share our posts to raise awareness?

We are involved in this project because we sincerely believe that Abertillery deserves nice things, our community needs a place to call its own, a place that belongs to local people and future generations.   We know we can do this!  Together, we can realise our dream to reopen this very important building and leave a positive legacy for future generations.  Thank you in advance of your support.
