Unfortunately, last week’s storms and heavy rainfall have caused an emergency situation regarding the club’s changing room roof structures. Rainwater managed to get in between the external roof covers and infiltrate cracks within the building structure, even dangerously getting into light fittings, causing flooding and an electrical blowout.
This now means that all changing rooms bar two are inaccessible on health and safety grounds, and this issue needs immediate attention, to the cost of £40k.
Without changing rooms, we cannot facilitate junior and senior rugby matches at the club and, at present, do not have the changing room capacity for more than one home team and one opposition team at any one time, which is a huge logistical nightmare at the weekends.
The club are taking immediate action to repair the roof, but this is an unexpected and costly blow to club finances. While we have the existing funds to cover this emergency situation, it comes at the cost of supporting other planned worthwhile projects at the club, such as (ironically!) two new changing rooms. Our insurers have already declined the claim on the roof as wear and tear, yet the roof remains in a precarious state.
We are therefore calling all club members, sponsors, players, supporters, past players and external benefactors to come together to support their club to recoup some of this unexpected and sudden loss of club funds.
Please donate even just the cost of a pint to help recoup some funding for this emergency situation to allow the club to continue to support other projects this season and next, and ensure our beloved community rugby club continues for generations to come.
