Aim

Investing in solar panels, will reduce the cost of our electricity and reduce our carbon footprint, making our club sustainable.

Abbey Hill Golf Club

Originally in 1975, when the land was owned by Milton Keynes Council, we the members, were encouraged to set up a golf clubhouse for the members, to ensure they could enter competitions and enjoy the social aspect of coming together for a few drinks and stories of 'what could have been!!'

With Golf making its first appearance at the Commonwealth games in Victoria in 2026, we hope this investment will help the juniors of today be the medal winners of the future.

Why are we crowdfunding?

For almost 50 years, we have run the sports club as a non-profit organisation, with all excess money put back into the running of the club.  With the recent, exceptional increase in costs, we have decided it's time to try and protect the future of the club and invest in solar panels.

Installing the solar panels will be the equivalent of planting 650 trees a year for 25 years and will reduce our carbon footprint as well as helping manage our costs.

How you can play your part

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target and make this project a reality.

1. Donate.  We would love your support so feel free to drop a note with your donation and we will get in touch to share our progress and welcome you in the club anytime.

2. Spread the word - Please tell your friends, colleagues and relatives about our needs and if there is anything you can help with, please get in touch.

3. Advertising - Anyone wanting to promote their business on the TV in the golf club can do so for £400 a year.  Any business that sponsors the club for £300 or more will get this advertisement space free for a year.

4. Rewards - If you can offer anyone discounts or rewards then feel free to get in touch.  We are happy to support and promote the local community.

How we’ll spend the money raised

We are planning on installing 81 solar panels on three of the roofs at Abbey Hill, which we hope will reduce the electricity cost by approx. £7,000 per annum.

We have had three quotations, with our preferred supplier being able to do this for £47,500.

Community impact

The project will improve our impact on the environment, with the solar panels being the equivalent of planting 650 trees a year for each of the next 25 years, thus reducing our carbon footprint.

In reducing the costs, we will also make the club more affordable for the members and guests and the wider community who use the building for a range of events such as birthdays, anniversaries, wakes.

We are always keen for new members to join and complete more activities.  We currently have a darts team and support Stepping Stones hosting regular meetings.  We also raise funds for charities with local organisations such as Willen Hospice benefitting from monies collected at events run by various sections throughout the year.  In the past few years as well as Willen Hospice we have raised funds for Milton Keynes Hospital as well as donating our old pool table to the YMCA.
