Abbey 104 background

Abbey 104 has been the community radio station for Sherborne and surrounding villages for over 10 years. We broadcast on 104.7FM in the local area and worldwide online on www.abbey104.com. Apart from music across the years and the specialist music shows provided for listeners, we are committed to our local community, by publicising local events, attending events and by inviting local organisations, charities and musicians to participate in programmes. The video provided here, gives a flavour of the activities we engage in at Abbey 104.

The current situation for Abbey 104

Earlier this year we were unexpectedly given notice to quit our studio by 1 August, as the building was to be sold. This has caused significant challenges for the station, not only to find new premises, but also to create a studio with appropriate soundproofing, lighting and security in those premises. We have found brilliant new premises and secured some funding for the larger work, through generous donations from our members and local businesses, as well as by applying for grants (fingers crossed everyone!). However, we could do with some extra help to get better, energy-efficient lighting suitable for a studio as well as security lighting and CCTV, none of which we had budgeted for.

Here's a photo or two of what will be a fantastic new studio for Abbey 104 for years to come! These are the 'before' photos - wait till you see the 'after' photos! We are really looking forward to broadcasting from our new home.

Will you help Abbey 104 to add the items we need in our new studio to keep providing an entertaining source of music and local information?

We know everyone is stretched financially and we all have been for a while, but a pound or two from a number of people soon mounts up and will be such a help to this little radio station that is run entirely by volunteers from the local area who we train to become presenters. Have a listen to our shows. You will find a vast range of different programmes. Something for everyone, as they say! We're offering some special rewards to a limited number of donors, but you can still donate any amount even if you don't want a reward or they've all gone!

Please help!

With many thanks and all good wishes from the Abbey 104 Team
