We have had exciting news that Sport England will award us £2,500 for the roller pur...
Randwick Cricket Club want to improve their cricket pitch by purchasing a motorised roller and increasing opportunities for playing cricket.
Who are we?Against the odds, in 1984 a cricket square was established on the slopes of Randwick playing fields, providing Randwick residents the opportunity to play cricket locally for the first time.
Since then, Randwick Cricket Club has developed from a Sunday side to a successful league team participating in the Stroud league.
Why are we crowdfunding?
STOP PRESS: SPORT ENGLAND HAS OFFERED £2,500 MATCH FUNDING!
Our main goal is to encourage people to play cricket using our unique ground and facilities. Whilst, we are proud of the cricket square we have created from the slope, for some years now we have increasingly struggled with pitch maintenance due to reliance on a heavy manual push/pull roller. This has not only required significant commitment by volunteer groundsmen it has restricted the number of games we are able to play on the cricket square.

Increasing the quality of cricket strips we are able to prepare will increase opportunities for people to play cricket.
Getting Older People Active Playing Cricket
In particular, we would like to encourage older people to get more active through playing cricket, improving physical and mental health, reducing isolation and providing opportunities for socialising and making connections.
We are currently developing a mid-week social team based at local pub, the Carpenters Arms. This team, started by a group of friends and nicknamed Carps Diem, are primarily composed of older players from 45 - 67 years of age. This team will be Randwick CCs mid-week social team and we will be hosting a number of indoor nets to recruit older players to this team. This team will play weekly, friendly 20 overs matches with other local (mostly older) social teams. With each match lasting 2.5 hours, our aim is to increase fitness with less active older people, raise health and well being levels , as well as improving cricket skills -hopefully!

With the funds raised we will purchase a motorised roller. We estimate this to cost £5,000 including a contingency to pay for servicing. Sport England has offered us £2,500 match funding to purchase a roller. We have plans afoot to boost our fundraising efforts to ensure we reach 50% of our target of £5,000.
Thank you to everybody who has donated so far. We are confident we can raise 50% of our target with your help. Let the good times (and pitches) roll and donate today. See below how you can play a part in developing an important sporting facility in Randwick.
By improving local cricket playing facilities we are also investing in our cricket assets for future generations. Increasing the efficiency of wicket preparation will benefit all who play cricket on the playing fields. Randwick Cricket Club will continue to be open to everybody who would like to be involved - young and old. As well as a mixture of cricketing ability and age, our players and volunteers at Randwick CC come from a wide range of economic and cultural backgrounds. As such , we are more than just a cricket club. We are part of our local community and offer opportunities to get active, socialise, reduce isolation, and for inter-generational engagement.

Another beneficial community impact is when there are cricket matches on at the playing fields, the footfall in our local pubs increases with both home and away players. and spectators, visiting the pub after the game, for a drink, for food and to socialise.
