The NHS is in a state of emergency, with problems ranging from long waiting lists, crumbling hospital buildings, to underfunding and understaffing. Millions of patients are on waiting lists, and hard-working NHS staff are struggling because of the pressures they face at work. This is a crisis which has been building up for years, and we need immediate action to turn things around.
With a new government, we have an opportunity for change now, and we need to grab that opportunity with both hands. It’s possible for things to be improved, and for the NHS to work well for every person who relies on it. But in order for that to happen, we need to ensure that the Labour government is focusing on the right things, and enacting policies to improve things for both NHS patients and staff.
EveryDoctor is a non-profit campaigning organisation, and with the support of our incredible network of NHS staff and patients, we run projects to research what is happening to the NHS, advocate for NHS patients and staff, and fight for changes to improve the NHS. We oppose NHS privatisation in all its forms, and believe that the NHS should be fully publicly-owned, and fully publicly-run (the majority of the public believes this too). If we hit our crowdfund goal, we will embark on a crucial and ambitious project over the next 3 months, called #RebuildTheNHS.
We will create a “manifesto for the NHS”, and to engage with as many politicians as we can to push for these changes. We will also continue our work investigating the financial links between politicians and the private healthcare sector. We believe that transparency and accountability are of utmost importance, and with the NHS in total crisis, this has never been more important.
How will we do it?
If we hit our crowdfund goal…
1. We will create a “manifesto for the NHS”, based on the priorities of UK doctors, who will tell us what needs to happen urgently to improve things for NHS patients and staff.
2. We will run a series of meetings with politicians, engaging with as many MPs as possible to explain what needs to happen to rebuild the NHS.
3. We will support MPs to push for the changes that are needed; supplying politicians with briefing documents, providing background information where necessary, and aiding them to advocate for NHS patients and staff in Parliament.
4. We will continue our crucial research, investigating the financial links between politicians and individuals and organisations associated with the private healthcare sector. We will share our findings with as many people as possible, because we believe that transparency and accountability matters.
