Please help us to make our building warmer and more sustainable so that we can offer a welcoming Warm Space for the community this winter
Exeter Phoenix is an accessible, welcoming and centrally located hub for creative and cultural activity. We plan to welcome people into our building through the colder months by offering a Warm Space for the community. Exeter Phoenix already offers a safe-haven in the heart of the city - our café offers space for individuals and groups of all ages and backgrounds to meet and relax, and our free-to-access galleries provide spaces for people to spend time alone or with others, enjoying an engaging and unique cultural experience.

We would like to do more of this, and ensure that this space is available to everyone who needs it. We have already invested and made changes so that our space can better serve the community, adding more seating and soft furnishings to our café area to increase capacity and make the area even more welcoming, and introducing a range of discounts and initiatives to support people who are struggling (including pay it forward ticket schemes and providing free soup at community festivals).

The next steps are to ensure that out building is as warm as it can be by making adaptations to our doors to improve their energy efficiency and reduce draughts in our historic building. To complement this project our Café/Bar chefs will also be sharing simple, economic recipe cards and our creatives will be sharing arts and crafts activity sheets to support people to care for their emotional well-being as well as their physical well-being.

This project would not only support us to help people stay warm and safe this winter, it would also introduce more people to the free art and cultural experiences that are available in the local area. We hope that anyone enjoying this warm space will discover this and a range of other accessible creative and cultural opportunities, encouraging a wider demographic to enjoy the diverse and high-quality cultural contributions from organisations and individuals across the city and beyond.
