We must start rebuilding.
Donald Trump’s victory is a win for the global far-right, and will embolden extremists, dictators and anti-democratic forces around the world. It will set back the campaign to halt climate change, empower nationalists and those who want to disregard our human rights.
It’s also a victory for the British far-right. Like convicted criminal Tommy Robinson or Nigel Farage, who Trump declared had “always been his friend’ at a rally this week.
Trump has already dangerously transformed the Republican party and dragged it to the far right. It’s clear that the next four years will be a testing time for democracy and civil rights in the US and across the world.
It could happen here
Far right ideas are global and what happens in the US should act as a warning to us all. At the 2024 General Election, Reform UK won 14.3% of the votes, a record vote share for a far-right party.
They have the potential to pick up hundreds of seats at the 2025 and 2026 local elections, giving them an unprecedented platform to spread their hateful and divisive views throughout communities in the UK.
We must act now to stop Reform UK in their tracks.
Why should you support HOPE not hate?
HOPE not hate exists to tackle the far right and build hopeful communities, and for almost 20 years we've been doing just that. We've been successful in defeating the British National Party, the English Defence League and ensuring racist thugs like Tommy Robinson are held accountable for their actions.
With your donation, we can make a real difference.
Your donation will help us build a local resistance to Reform UK and their hateful politics. Our campaigners will work on the ground, identifying the issues that matter most to people, campaigning with them on local fixes and showing them that the solution can never be the far-right.
Money raised by this campaign will go towards practical things like leaflets, event spaces and campaign stalls. It will also fund our research work, exposing extreme candidates and their connections to the global far right.
The struggle for a better world has been made harder by Trump’s victory. We need individuals who believe in the power of community and are willing to stand against Trump’s division and intolerance.
Our capacity to hope is being challenged. But this must be a mobilising moment for us all. With your support, a better world is possible. We cannot lose hope.
