A Step Outside is a 15-minute emotional drama, capturing how a grief-stricken widow navigates her way through severe agoraphobia and anxiety with the help of her grandson acting as a mentor.

Storyline:
A Step Outside opens with 74-year-old widow Robin and her son Edward standing at a graveyard, mourning a loss that leaves them shaken. Confined by severe agoraphobia, Robin finds comfort in VHS tapes of her late husband Ciaran, reliving their playful love. Her grandson Brendan visits her frequently bringing groceries and acts as a mentor to Robin throughout the film. One day, an unexpected crisis forces Robin to confront her deepest fear: stepping outside. As she grapples with anxiety and the memories of those she’s lost, will she find the strength to embrace the world beyond her doorstep?

In order to achieve the cinematic look and the emotional depth for this short film we will utilize industry-level equipment like the Sony Venice and the ARRI lighting. The shoot will include well equipped studio sets to ensure a controlled and immersive environment. Amogh Ghadi:
Amogh is a video editor who has been captivated by storytelling since his early teens. He has honed his skills by editing a diverse range of content, including long-form YouTube videos, TikToks, and short advertisements.
Amogh gained valuable experience working as an assistant cinematographer and editor for an advertising company for a year before transitioning to freelance video editing for two years. To further refine his craft and deepen his understanding of cinematic storytelling, he pursued an MA in Filmmaking at the University of Sussex.
Having worked as a video editor Amogh recognised the importance of sound in films and decided to specialise in sound mixing as his niche.. He has contributed as a sound mixer and boom pole operator to several short films, including Gone Appetite, Was it Worth It?, Mother’s Love, Poetic Justice, Aurora, and Die.
A Step Outside marks his debut as a director, showcasing his evolution from an editor to a filmmaker.
Vision:
“A Step Outside” unfolds within the confines of Robin’s home. It symbolises both safety and entrapment for her. The interior tones of her world sharply contrast the vibrant world beyond her doorstep. The film explores the balance between comfort and fear as Robin deals with loss, anxiety and the courage to bring about change in her life. The story is meant to capture the raw emotions and the tension between the comfort of the known and the terror of the unknown. The use of lights and shadows will reflect Robin’s internal struggle, with her dim and enclosed home juxtaposing against the bright and open outdoors she fears. The goal is to capture Robin’s struggle with facing her fear while drawing the audience into her world and inspiring them to face their fears.
