Aim

A piano dedicated to Bob Maxwell in the AA's Front Members' Room

Bob Maxwell (1922−2020) was an architect, teacher, author, pianist and dear friend of the AA. Bob remained close to the School for more than 60 years. He first joined the AA in 1958 as Year Master, served on the AA Council for a number of years (including a year as AA Vice President), and returned to the AA in 1994 to teach History of Modern Architecture until he retired in 2006. In 2012 Bob was elected as AA Honorary Member.

Bob died suddenly in his beloved Aix-en-Provence (France) on 2 January 2020 and since the sad news of his passing there have been conversations and tributes amongst his family and friends, as well as staff and students at the AA, who dearly remember him bringing many an evening alive with his jazz and ragtime renditions on the piano.

With this in mind and with the support of Bob’s family, the AA has launched an appeal to install a piano dedicated to Bob Maxwell as a permanent fixture in the Front Member’s Room at the AA. Over the decades music has come and gone at the School and it would be wonderful to hear the piano being played again, in fond memory of Bob Maxwell.
