Aim

To make our gender-inclusive clothes bank accessible to all, we're raising funds for new premises.

The Wardrobe is a safe space and clothes bank, for anyone who is trans, non-binary, intersex or gender-questioning. We are open to anyone who needs access to free or affordable clothing, and who feels unsafe in standard shopping and changing environments.

The Wardrobe started life in a cupboard at The NewBridge Project back in 2022. In 2024 we moved to Orbis Community in Gateshead. Both these homes have been vital to our development, but now we're ready to spread our wings and set up on our own!

We would love to take on a new premises, and staff it properly so we can offer regular opening times for people to drop-in to browse, alongside the private appointments which are so vital to people at the beginning of their transition journey.

The Wardrobe will take up one half of this new space, and the other half will become Double Space: a brand new accessible co-working (and body doubling) space for neurodivergent creatives. The two projects will be run by For Ourselves CIC, a brand new organisation that will be launched in the coming months by our current voluntary team.

Studies consistently report a high co-occurrence of gender diversity and neurodiversity, and our experience confirms this. We feel these two projects will make excellent neighbours, and cross-pollinate to form a welcoming community for people who struggle to find it elsewhere.

We see significant unmet needs for people on waiting lists in the North East, for medical diagnosis, for Gender Affirming care, and support services. The social support we hope to offer would go some way to bridging the current gap, and enable visitors and members to feel some much needed agency.

We're so grateful to all the organisations who've invited us to fundraise as part of their celebrations this Pride month: Heaton Pride, Sister Shack, Doll Haus and LUSH Newcastle; to everyone who continues to donate such wonderful clothes and accessories to help keep us so well stocked; and most of all to our regular Patreon supporters who have made it possible to pay rent on our current premises, until we can graduate to our fully fledged form.

Thank you for reading, and considering donating. 🏳️‍⚧️ ♾️ 🙏
