Aim

Help us raise the 280% rent increase needed to relocate our charity to new premises following notice of eviction from our current building.

About Remake

Remake is a community-led environmental charity dedicated to creative reuse. Founded in 2011 and based in Crieff, Perthshire, our team saves over 45 tonnes of items from landfill annually and redistributes them into our community through reuse, repair and share projects.

Through our various projects we want to help make life in our community more sustainable, creative and affordable (find more details below).

Our Dilemma

After 15 years in our current building, we have been told that we must move out by the end of next year.

The trouble is that we need a LOT of space for our services, and we are already bursting at the seams. Unfortunately, there are very few spaces available locally that can house our projects and if we cannot find a space soon, our charity may have to close.

After years of searching for an appropriate building, our dream building has suddenly become available to rent!

However, it comes with overwhelming moving costs. With a 280% increase in rent, a 6-week loss of income while we move, and us having to replace the full heating system which the previous tenants unexpectedly removed, we need your help to secure our charity's future.

Moving to this building would allow us to fill a currently empty building and stay in our community. It would offer us premise security for the next 10 years, vital car parking and an 80% space increase to expand our community services.

Our Ask

Raising a minimum of £20K through community help would allow our reserves to stretch enough to meet the moving costs and allow us to keep offering our services to our community.

Excitingly, every donation to this Crowdfunder will be matched through the Aviva Community Fund to have double the impact! We are asking for your support to protect Remake’s future.

We are facing over £150K in moving costs including a full new heating system and solar of £50K, fit-out costs of £10K, legal fees of £10K, movers for £7K, insurance increases of £4K and a year 2 rent that increases to £46K all coupled with a £25K loss in income while we’re closed for the move. We have been able to build up reserves for a move, however they will be fully exhausted through this expansion and will fall short of covering all the growing costs.

Our Dream

Help us keep our charity running and make our vision for a sustainable future possible. Over the next 10 years, our new premises will support our community to:

  • Redistribute 800 tonnes of household and commercial items destined for landfill back into the community and begin taking items like sofas, beds and wardrobes that we currently don’t have space for;
  • Introduce a new driver into our team to support our free collection and delivery service, to make reuse accessible to all;
  • Expand our Repair Hub for household goods and textiles to 5 days per week, making repair as easy as replacement;
  • Further reduce carbon emissions through renewable energy generation;
  • Support more than 15,000 people aged 4+ to learn practical skills that help to combat climate change and increase community connections;
  • Benefit over 20,000 households annually through our services!

Who are Remake:

Since 2011 our charity has been delivering services that help people in Perth and Kinross to save money while saving the planet!

We have grown from a tiny group of volunteers to a thriving Real Living Wage charity with a team of 13 dedicated staff members supported by over 60 volunteers aged from 14 – 87! Our vision is for a Scotland which is more sustainable, creative and affordable.

Our Projects support progress towards this vision through the following community services:

Our Reuse Hub - the only thing we want to bin is throw-away culture! Since we began, our hub has diverted over 545 tonnes from landfill! Think of our Hub like a regular charity shop, only 5 times bigger with all of the items that regular charity shops wouldn’t be able to accept, including furniture, raw textiles, craft items, tools and garden equipment.

Our Community Tool Library – why buy new when you can borrow? Since 2021 our tool library has issued over 7,500 free equipment loans helping our community share resources, avoid buying new and save thousands of pounds! We have over 400 items available to borrow – from gardening equipment to camping gear and everything in between.

Our Repair Hub - carry it in and our dedicated volunteer repairers will have a go at fixing it! From toasters to trousers, we want to see things stay in use longer. This monthly service has helped to keep over 500 items in use since 2023, and we have big plans to see it grow in our new space!

Reuse & Repair Classes – We support people to learn the skills to repair and reuse items and to build vocational skills for a sustainable future. We focus on teaching forgotten textile skills as we recognise the enormous impact that fast fashion has on our planet. We have a regular programme of events including our weekly mending circle, sewing clubs and quilt making classes which are low-cost, beginner friendly spaces open to everyone.

Climate Education- We believe that environmental learning should be fun rather than frightening! We work with over 1000 people each year through schools, community groups and organisations to embed climate learning through creative reuse. We also run two community Climate Cafes including one in our local High School, these are open welcoming spaces to learn, connect and share ideas.

Testimonials from our partners

 “The proposed move to King Street represents a vital step forward for both Remake and the residents we collectively serve. Relocating to a prominent, central space on King Street will dramatically increase accessibility, ensuring that Remake's essential environmental and community services are within reach for everyone […] it represents a direct investment in local accessibility, sustainability, and community well-being.” Crieff Connexions – local community development and poverty relief charity.

 “Logos have collaborated on a range of youth initiatives with Remake for many years and are really excited by the new opportunities that will be created by their relocation from their previous site at Crieff Visitor Centre to the property in King Street in Crieff. The relocation will remove transport barriers and make it much easier for young people to access this as an option. Having Remake in the town will increase the number of collaborative sessions and workshops we are able to offer the young people, giving them more opportunities to learn new skills and take part in creative activities.” Logos Youth Project – local youth outreach and inclusion charity

 “Since its first innovative venture in Crieff in 2011, the organisation has gone from strength to strength in expanding its services to support the Crieff community’s move towards a more circular economy by encouraging re-use, minimising waste, promoting repair skills and generally increasing climate awareness. Its staff and ever-growing band of volunteers have become an integral part of Crieff’s community structure. Its expansion into the King Street property will mark a major improvement on its challenging Muthill Road premises and allow it to make even further advances on its core objectives.” Crieff Community Council
