A New Chapter: Tattoo Removal as a new Christian

Aim

Help me remove my past tattoos to fully embrace my new life in Christ and walk forward with a clean slate

Hi, I'm Bella and I'm 28, from the UK. At the beginning of this year, God came to me in a dream, and since that night I have been finding my way into a life with Jesus. 

I'm so grateful and blessed to have been saved, and found God, and I am so excited to start this new beginning in my life. I know that God forgives and loves us always, but having got quite a number of tattoos before I came into my faith, I am now really uncomfortable with having them and feel it is not respectful to God.

I am hoping to get my tattoos removed as soon as possible, so that how I look on the outside can reflect how I feel on the inside. I do want to make it clear my tattoos aren't related to any criminal behaviour or substance use or anything (I've never done anything like that), but sadly I did have a traumatic childhood and I think for me the tattoos were a form of 'acting out'. I think I felt rejected, and so I got them to prove a point - like 'okay fine, i'll be an outsider then'.

Making mistakes in your early 20s I think is something a lot people can relate to, now that I'm older, I don't want people to still judge me on the way that the hurt, rejected, younger me felt I 'had' to look. Especially now that I have found God, and I am ready to give my life to Christ, I want to present myself in the best way I can.

Unfortunately for the number of tattoos I have, removing all of them is going to be very expensive, and I just can't cover it or even access enough credit for it. In total I've been told it's going to be £15,000, which honestly just breaks my heart to think I'm going to be stuck looking a way that no longer reflects who I am. Since the cost is so high, I'm starting with a goal of £8,000 which should at least get the majority of my visible arms and legs removed I hope.

Honestly, I'm very embarrassed that I ever got these tattoos, and the way that I saw the world before. Finding my faith in God and Jesus feels like coming home, I really hope I can get rid of these reminders of my life before.
