On the 25th January 2023 we'd raised £4,325 with 80 supporters in 14 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
Each additional £1000 raised will allow us to deliver this unique and memorable workshop-show to an additional 60 children!
If we're able to raise an additional £8000 that would be 480 children aged 9 - 11, all of whom attend state primary schools without active music departments.
That's a cost of just under £17/child.
We have a number of school partners lined up and nothing would make us happier than being able to say YES to all of them!
What was the first ever rhythmic sound? The very first instrument? What is a sound wave? What is pitch? What’s the difference between sound and music? Musical notation – what’s that all about?!
Vache Baroque proudly presents 'A History of Sound', our interactive, educational children's show, accompanied by hands-on workshops and a cross-curricular resources pack for children aged 9 - 11.
Please help us!
We need to raise £2000 in two weeks so that we can continue developing & delivering this ground-breaking project. A generous anonymous VBFriend has pledged £2000 of match funding so anything you donate towards this crowd funder will have double the impact!
Each £1000 that we raise on top of this means 60 additional children will get to experience this unforgettable musical experience.
The Show
Four Agents of Sound are tasked with exploring sounds on planet earth from 4.5 billion years ago up to the time of J. S. Bach, singing, playing, and demonstrating as they go.
The Junior Agents will help us to explore...
★ All the weird and wonderful sounds created in nature on planet Earth
★ How important sound is to animals & humans (including how non-verbal sounds can be loaded with meaning - ooOOOoohh!!)
★ The physics of sound, voices, and instruments
★ The worlds of four historical visionaries who were integral to the development of music!
The Workshops
The workshops challenge our new recruits to complete a series of 'Agency Induction Tasks' such as...
★ Creating instruments out of everyday objects like milk bottles, cereal boxes, rubber bands, even vegetables
★ Introductions to real instruments, trying out making sounds
★ Guess-the-sound listening challenges
★ ...singing, composing, conducting, and much more!
We believe this project has extremely exciting potential to act as a memorable & fun gateway to classical music & sound creation for young people, particularly (but not exclusively) for those aged 9 - 11.
What have we done so far?
★ We met to devise the show in July & August 2022
★ We performed a first sharing in September 2022 to gather feedback
★ We continued to research & develop the show with further feedback & co-design from our VB Young Ambassadors in January 2023
What we will do next WITH YOUR HELP!
★ Create our cross-curricular resources pack
★ Develop further content & workshop material with our VB Young Ambassadors
★...and then get this show on the road!
We have agreed performances with four primary state schools (two in Aylesbury, one in High Wycombe, one in Slough) whose children do not have access to regular music lessons and who would benefit enormously from this project.
And in the future...
We'd love to undertake a national tour, visiting primary schools in hard-to-reach and deprived areas, as well as festivals and family-focussed performance venues.
Our team
We are Oskar, Gabriella, Betty, Jonny, (agents) Paul (director) & Lizzy (designer). Between us, we have a wealth of performing, outreach & teaching experience. Most importantly though, we're united by our passion for music and our desire to create life-changing moments for young people.
