Griffyn Gilligan, a working-class, queer, trans, immigrant artist, lost his husband under the most traumatic circumstances imaginable.
Griffyn Gilligan lost his husband under the most traumatic circumstances imaginable last month. Since then, he's had virtually no space to breathe - in addition to his own hurt and trauma, he's had to deal with the legal issues thrown up by his husband's life and death; harassment; abuse; the Home Office's requirements for immigrants when a spouse dies; funeral expenses; coming up with double the usual amount of rent because his husband's passed away; getting queer- and trans-appropriate healthcare in the UK...the list goes on. This all amounts to an unpaid, full-time job.
Griffyn has no family in the UK, and is dealing with these difficulties alone. I (Eve) personally feel grateful that he's allowing his chosen family to give him this support, at this unbelievably difficult time.
He's attached a budget breakdown, so donors can be clear on the expenses he's facing and where the money will go:
Rent (3 months - the two [husband] didn’t pay for, and then one month of rent for bereavement leave): £3750
Cremation: £1236
Bereavement Therapy (3 months): £960
Solicitor for Indefinite Leave to Remain application: £2275
Memorial: £1k
Indefinite Leave to Remain UK Home Office fee:
£2,408.20
15% Contingency: £1,744.38
Total: £13,373.58
