Aim
So we can give more free memberships to people in need and run workshops to help people save money AND reduce their environmental impact.
Library of Things Saltburn was founded in 2022 to provide loans of tools and other items to the people of Redcar and Cleveland. Borrowing not buying helps people save money and reduces the environmental impact by saving items from landfill and less resources used to manufacture new items. It is a mutual aid project, community led and run.
We also run free workshops that help people to save money and reduce their environmental impact such as a seed swap with gardening advice and visible mending.
We aim to provide as many free memberships and loans as possible but we do also ask those that can to pay membership / loan fees on a sliding scale depending what they can afford. The more money we can raise in this crowdfunder the more free memberships and workshops we can run to help our community be more resilient to the twin challenges of cost of living and climate change. Plus evidence shows that volunteering and being part of community activities is good for mental health too.
