Aim

Methody Prep PTA’s aim is to level the playing field by bringing after-school sports, activities and competition to ALL pupils

Who are we?

We are the Parent Teacher Association of Methody Prep and Pre School, part of Methodist College Belfast. We are situated at the main Methodist College Belfast campus on the Malone Road, Belfast with the added benefit of having access to the extensive grounds of Pirrie Park in East Belfast, which were acquired in 1932 from Harland and Wolff.

Aim

Methody Prep PTA’s aim is to level the playing field by bringing after-school sports, activities and competition to ALL pupils — ensuring every child, regardless of ability or background, has a genuine opportunity to participate in sport and physical activity.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Methody Prep PTA is applying to Sport NI’s Creating Opportunities programme to expand and enhance our after-school sports programme, with a particular focus on ensuring every child can participate — including those who find traditional sporting activities difficult or inaccessible.

Not every child thrives or can take part in conventional team sports. Many pupils lack the opportunity to discover a sport or physical activity that suits them, which can lead to disengagement from physical activity altogether. We want to change that by introducing a diverse range of new activities that open doors for children of all abilities, giving every pupil — whatever their physical ability or confidence level — a meaningful chance to get active and enjoy sport.

Our programme will introduce brand new multi-sport after-school sessions during the spring and summer terms, covering gymnastics, dance, pickle ball, indoor bowls, and boxing. The variety of activities is deliberate — each one offers different physical and social benefits, and together they ensure there is something for every child. We will also create a competition element both within school and against other schools, helping children build confidence and forge connections through sport.

This is a new and additional programme designed to create lasting, inclusive participation opportunities for children and young people at Methody Prep.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Our total project cost is £10,000. We are raising £5,000 through crowdfunding, with Sport NI’s Creating Opportunities programme matching this with a further £5,000. Every penny will go directly to new sporting opportunities for our pupils:

  • Introduction of new sports including pickle ball, gymnastics, dance, indoor bowls, and boxing — chosen specifically to be accessible to children of all abilities
  • Sports equipment such as tricycles for gross motor skills, target equipment for accuracy, and large parachutes for group activities and problem-solving
  • Gymnastic equipment to develop core strength, coordination, and risk assessment skills
  • Speed, agility, and quickness equipment including training ladders, agility hurdles, reaction balls, and fitness dice
  • New coaching and volunteer development to upskill staff in delivering these inclusive new activities
  • Review the current aspects of school sporting competitions such as sports day to include sports/activities so that all pupils can participate and challenge and grow their competitive natures.

Our proposed budget spend and program is as follows:

Your support will directly benefit children and young people at Methody Prep, creating new sporting opportunities — particularly for those who have never found their place in sport before — that will serve our school community for years to come.
