Who are we?
We’re a passionate group of Sedgeberrow locals who want to create a space where everyone can come together, relax, and enjoy the sport of pétanque. From families and friends to visitors passing through, our aim is to make pétanque a central part of village life—a game that’s easy to learn, fun to play, and perfect for all ages and abilities.
We've put on a number of events over the years, from celebrating royal jubilees, to organising teams for the parish games.
Our team is made up of local community members who are dedicating their time and energy to make this vision a reality. Whether it’s coordinating the project, spreading the word, or planning future events, we’re committed to building not just a pétanque piste, but a lasting legacy of connection and joy for Sedgeberrow.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We’re crowdfunding to build a pétanque piste in Sedgeberrow—a vibrant, accessible space for socialising, light competition, and fostering community spirit. This will be a place where people of all backgrounds can gather to play, learn, and watch pétanque, whether for leisure or in preparation for events like the annual Wychavon Games!
But we can’t do it alone. That’s where your support comes in.
Sport England sees the value in our project and has pledged £3,500 if we can raise the other £3,500 through this crowdfunder, supported by at least 50 unique donors. This means every pound you contribute helps unlock their funding, effectively doubling the impact of your generosity.
With the rising cost of materials and the need for a high-quality, sustainable build, your contributions are vital. Combined with funds already raised through local events, donations, and community support, we’re getting closer to making this dream a reality—but we need your help to cross the finish line!
Below is an image of the area we've laid out for the petanque piste.
As you can see, it doesn't encroach on the children's play area. It's a community area where people can get together to play, learn and watch, petanque.
It will also give us a great practice area to prepare ourselves for the annual Wychavon games!
How we’ll spend the money raised
We believe in transparency and ensuring that every penny raised (and matched by Sport England!) is spent wisely. Here’s how the funds will be used:
- Materials and construction: Creating a durable, accessible pétanque piste that will stand the test of time.
- Seating and landscaping: Making the area welcoming and comfortable for players, spectators, and visitors.
- Equipment and maintenance: Ensuring the piste remains in excellent condition for years of enjoyment.
In addition to the matched funding from Sport England, we’ve already raised money locally through village events and donations. However, reaching our crowdfunding target is crucial to securing the final amount needed for this project.
Community impact
This project is about more than pétanque; it’s about building connections and fostering a sense of belonging. A pétanque piste in Sedgeberrow will:
- Bring people of all ages and abilities together to play, learn, and connect.
- Provide a new, inclusive activity and gathering spot for our village.
- Strengthen community spirit by hosting events and matches that everyone can enjoy.
- Attract visiting teams and players, showcasing Sedgeberrow as a vibrant, welcoming place.
By supporting this project, you’re contributing to a lasting legacy—a space where friendships are formed, memories are made, and community thrives.
Keyring reward.
How you can play your part
