We're raising funds to help our community get active through inclusive sports and movement-based sessions.
Door 84 has launched the 'Pedal for Purpose' campaign to raise vital funds to continue the delivery of it's key services.
The main event: on October 22nd a static bike will be ridden continuously through the day by a succession of willing volunteers at Door 84's home on Lowther Street, York. We want to involve our whole community so throughout the day the bike will be in our main cafe space whilst the usual program of events continues around it. All those who come through the door will be invited to participate to support our effort to raise funds for Door 84.
Why have Door 84 launched the campaign?
Door 84 is a York-based local charity that delivers a range of services for children, young people, adults and families. The funds raised by this campaign will enable us to bring in organisations that specialise in delivering sports/movement-based sessions for the different sectors of our community. For those who attend our youth clubs that may provide the chance to try a new actvity, or play a sport they already love but didn't have opportunity to attend a regular club. For our SPARKS attendees bowling trips are a favourite so we can do more of these and maybe try out some new activities too.
We aim to deliver what our attendees say would work for them. To enable us to keep things fresh and try new things we work with partner organisations, which comes at a cost. Trying new experiences is a way to build resilience, confidence, skills and who knows, maybe we'll unlock some hidden talents. We aim to ensure that our community has the same opportunities to be active as everyone else and that is why we are raising funds - to enrich the lives of those people who rely on us as a safe space in which to socialise.
To sustain our services Door 84 relies on fundraising and donations, and the money raised by the 'Pedal for Purpose' campaign will go towards the continuation of Door 84's Youth "Get Active" Sessions and SPARKS. If we are lucky enough to exceed our target the extra funds will be used to cover other costs involved in running the services Door 84 provides to the community.
84 miles for Door 84
So how do we propose to persuade you that we're worthy of your donation? We will be earning it in sweat (but hopefully no tears!) as we aim to collectively pedal 84 miles or more (imagine starting at Old Trafford and cycling across the Pennines to Lowther Street, York). Some people may not have ridden a bike in decades but they will still be invited to do their bit, even if just for a few minutes.
