Please donate generously. All donations will support us in improving the access to our inclusive and modern archery facility.
Why is disabled access so important? For the disabled person a powered access system extends the opportunities to take part in a sports environment. It’s about being inclusive and having the ability to use a sports facility that offers a real-life experience without obstacles. The project will ensure we can offer extended access to our indoor and outdoor facility without disruption, and provide a viable sports venue attracting a regular influx of new members. An automated gate will also provide better security for our members and visitors during the winter period by allowing access to the range without having to leave the vehicle to open the gate in the dark or in the wet.
Cleve Archers are looking to raise £7752.00 to meet our project costs of £15,504. However, in order to do this, we need your help now.
Access to the facility is through a 5-bar gate which has to be pushed open and then closed to secure the complex. This type of access is not ideal and impedes access to people with physical difficulties. Ease of access would attract a greater number of people from the community who fall into this category.
Cleve Archer’s would like to install an automatic access gate to allow club members and the local community ease of access to the facility, especially for the disabled. Auto Access will be a safety feature for all our members espescially when leaving the facility at night. There are no street lights and visibility is reduced on exit.
Cleve Archers have been in the local area since January 1960. We started life in a small concrete garage on a rugby field with very limited access. We had several new homes until in 2018, with funding grants from Suez, Enovert and Sport England, we built our own modern, environmentally friendly archery sports facility in a small village in South Gloucestershire.
Cleve Archers are an inclusive sports club and actively encourage local residents to join us in our archery sessions. An automatic security gate will increase the security of the field and encourage the local community to visit and become involved with our sport, whether as participants, competitors or volunteers. We offer reduced affiliation fees to everyone with disabilities. We have an active archery instructor at a local charity, for physically disabled adults, giving people the opportunity to develop new skills, enjoy new experiences and live life to the full.
The running costs of Cleve Archers facility is difficult to assess, the majority of our funds come from membership subscriptions which change year on year. We also have to repay a £45,000 building loan over a 10-year period.
Archery target bosses are the biggest outlay and we replace or refurbish 28 target bosses 2 or 3 times a year at an approximate cost of 5k. Our 22 tournament bosses are now reaching the end of their life at an estimated cost of £518 each.
The other financial implications are general maintenance supplies for the Clubhouse and ancillary equipment. Our strict financial regime is overseen by our volunteer treasurer, a qualified accountant.
We are totally dependant on our volunteer workforce which helps keep the costs down, but we still need to raise money to improve the facility and attract more members.
Cleve Archers have received an offer from the Sport England Movement Fund of £7,752 towards a total project cost of £15,504. We need to raise an additional £7,752 to meet our funding target.
Any improvements to the facility will certainly attract more people from our catchment area, South Gloucestershire, Bristol and the South West region, to join our beginner and taster sessions, and become active members.
Modern assisted access control systems have been designed so that anyone with any kind of disability is able to gain access to a sports facility or building without significant difficulty.
The main outlay will be the automatic gate. We have also allowed for a number plate recognition system to allow instant access. There will be a pedestrian entrance installed for visitors and cyclists. A new tarmac apron will also be constructed to improve vehicle entry.
There are a few more projects we need to implement to improve our environmental credentials.
This will be partly achieved by installing a small wind turbine to back up our off grid solar system in the winter months. We would also like to extend our outdoor shooting shelter and install lighting and speaker system to improve our locally run archery tournaments.
Environmental impact
Cleve Archers are committed to developing an energy efficient and environmentally friendly sports venue and a major part of the project was to plant and maintain a variety of British trees, shrubs and meadowland which encourages wildlife back into this beautiful area of South Gloucestershire.
We have groups of volunteers from companies in the local area. The priority for these groups is maintaining the hedgerows and trees on the north and south borders, ground preparation for planting wildflower meadows and repairing existing dry-stone walls around the perimeter of the facility. Well maintained grounds create a positive impression on all members and visitors from the area.
