The Return of Royal Oak

Aim
Fund the works required to return 50017 “Royal Oak” to service
50017 “Royal Oak” is owned by the preserved Great Central Railway. Since returning to service after Covid, the locomotive has been running on four of its six traction motors. In late 2025 the locomotive was found to have a leaking cylinder liner withdrawing it from service.
These works are beyond the scope of what the railway can do in house and an external contractor is required to complete the works. In 2026 the opportunity came up to move the locomotive to UKRLs base at Loughborough Brush Falcon Works where the works could be completed.
The estimated cost of these works including transport both ways is approximately £25,000 so we are trying to raise some funds to cover this work.
